    Fuck work.

Fuck the "be outside your comfort zone" attitude, when inside your comfort zone is where you're most valuable asset in the team.

Fuck a company that makes a fuckton of profit, and gives you a pay rise around half of inflation but says that is a good thing because the previous years it was even lower, as a percentage.

Fuck having to wait until October to get the bonus that I basically earned by end of June, forcing me to endure another fucking 4 months of fuckery.

In short, and as I stated originally: fuck work.

    Fuck... yes. Yes. And yes.

    • "outside of one's comfort zone" - fuck off. I am VERY fucking good at what I do. Use me to do that. Don't pay me to do something I'm not that good at. (Although, to be fair, I am now leaning towards doing that other shit - which other people do - even though it isn't my specialty, because they're so fucking bad at it that I want to yell "fuck, just give it here")
    • pay-rises less than inflation... fuck you. That's a pay-cut. I took a 50% pay-cut to take this job.
    • Oh - but we'll give you this extra-special prize of "equity shares"... which I have to stick around for at least 1 year to get 25% of the value, and 4 years to get the full value
    • And... I'm actually getting given the best/highest benefits possible... which makes me feel like a prick for complaining (when every other poor sap is apparently getting a 0% pay-rise)... and also realising that the company just fucking sucks, coz next year it will be somebody else they need to throw the cash at in order to keep happy.

As of Monday - I get to hear what I'm being "given" this year - and I've already been prepped it's
"more than anybody else" - and that just makes me feel bad. I know it's probably going to be adequate to keep me interested for another year; enough to make me feel (slightly) guilty about leaving within the next year; enough that it makes it worth my while to stick around another year for shares to be divested; enough to feel guilty that others are being screwed; and the combo: enough to realise that in general - the system is fucking broken.
Fuck work. And fuck being a permanent employee for a seppo corporate.
I need to go back contracting, just... lazy.

That's just shorthand for "You should take on any task we give you - no matter how menial or pointless - because a pile of really dumb fluffybunnies can't get it done or see why it's a bad idea".

This, combined with basically gaslighting me if I don't want to share their little "growth mindset" circle jerk.

I was in Canberra last weekend - I can see how you'd end up there, jeez it's an easy city - nothing more than 15mins drive away, food is good (but expensive), heaps of outdoor stuff to do, property way more affordable.

    Shit beaches but.

Yeah - I don't mind that cold (being kiwi and all) - its the fresh kind, frosts and stuff, and plus I miss actual seasons given Sydney is really just minor variations on the same! Summer would be interesting I guess

Ah but you live over near the ocean.

Here in Western Sydney we get proper winter frosts and summer.

    frosts and stuff,

For proper frosts, move to the New England region around Guyra and Glen Innes. This page below has some rad photo work of the recent events up there.

Fuck.... I had to look up "growth mindset".

People who have a growth mindset believe that even if they struggle with certain skills, their abilities aren’t set in stone. They think that with work, their skills can improve over time.

Sure... sometimes. But sometimes... nah. And sometimes... why bother?

    • Firstly - it sounds like the fluffybunnies at your work are distorting the intention of that concept in order to justify things it's not supposed to justify.
    • Secondly - it sounds like it could easily be used as a crutch for idiots. Easily perverted as a justification for people in the wrong area of the Dunning-Kruger Curve.

And fuck my work. Sure enough - they came to me with a big pile of money (or rather - shares) - that only get divested to me over the course of 4 years, if I'm still around at the end of each year.
And - to be fair... it's a fucking BIG pile of money... which - while nice, is infuriating... it's enough to give me severe pause about just throwing it away and moving on.
Also - zero pay-rises, for anybody, across the entire company. Not matching inflation, nothing. When inflation is rather high - and the company sent out emails bragging about 20% increases in Revenue over the last financial year... to mid-double-digits billions of USD. Fuck them.
They did give me a bonus, but I'd been warned "Yeah - we're going to give you a cash bonus, but I'd earmark it for moving costs if I was you... it's unlikely that we'll be helping you in the costs of moving to Vancouver-or-wherever in any way".

It feels extremely fucking churlish to complain about this considering the massive pile of shares they've assigned to me... but... it's fucking irritating. And the shares just feel like a golden leash... chafing just as much as any other type. Also... knowing that everybody else I work with was almost certainly screwed over even worse than usual, in order to make me just content enough to stick around.

I moved to Oz to get away from the weather in NZ (well the winter, I could happily live in HB in summer/autumn).

Haven't needed a heater this winter and can wear shorts most days.

@NTA Awesome - thanks... I need to file that away for future reference/use.
But it WILL be the future now... they've dangled a big enough carrot in front of me that I'd be foolish to not stay for at least 1 year, and probably 4. Fuck them.
And in 4 years... I'll be way too lazy to "Fuck You I Quit".

That reminds me, shorts season will be coming up in Welly soon, I’d better not skip leg day and get the pins looking powerful for the Xmas break.

I might even write in my fitness thread if I can be fucked.

Did you wear business socks and have them pulled up to just below your knees? Chicks love that.
