Mental note: Apply RT policy to Graeme's reviews in future. The second season of Reacher is certainly not better in any measure than the first.
-
@antipodean I am enjoying it, but my issue, that I don't recall from S1 is at times Reacher is a bit of an arrogant dick (his interactions with Russo mostly) and not that likeable, whereas S1 he seemed the strong silent type with some witty lines.
-
I don't find Reacher S2 any better or worse than S1. I'm leaning towards some people having rose tinted glasses about S1 though.
One thing I will say about S2 is that Reacher and team have the most powerful hand guns ever invented. They can outshoot automatic weapons. So so silly.
-
@taniwharugby Yeah, they've really gone over the top with that, and he just seems like a shithead.

My take is that he is playing the role with slightly autistic characteristics meaning he just doesn’t understand the impact of his behaviour, nor care hence the appearance of arrogance. Anyway could be wrong but either way I am still ok with the show, still enjoying it

Reacher
- all criticisms are correct
- all apologists are correct
- In general - it's very true to the source material
= Complaints about plot, character, etc - should be directed at Lee Child, not the TV adaptation
In the books - Reacher is very much border-line autistic, possibly sociopath, very much a prick; and the plots are ridiculous. Perfect for a TV serieseses. Sit back, switch brain off, enjoy.
(I say this authoritatively, having watched a single episode of S02 thus far)
-
The Reacher characterisation is fine - he's still intriguing. It's the cliched cardboard plot and wooden script/dialogue which are the problem
-
Apple delivering again
2 episodes in, excellent

@Kruse The team of writers the show employs could make a few modifications for the better?
Yeah - okay, so I'm up to episode 4, and more-and-more seeing why people are annoyed at the ridiculosity.
But... I still hold that it is staying extremely true to the source material... particularly in style - and I think that remains part of the charm.Imagine if they just loosely based it on the books, and people were whinging "But Reacher is supposed to be an imposing semi-autistic giant, not a charming midget!"

They excel themselves in the latest episode:
Reacher: "We'll send you to somewhere safe in Buffalo"
Burns: "You're not coming with us?"
Reacher: "We have to kill a few people first" -
The vibe is definitely in keeping with the books but… the casting, the dialogue, the acting and the actual storytelling is pretty poor. If you compare those points v season one, there is a stark difference.
It’s the expectation followed by the disappointment that is screwing it for me.
However, I am still watching it.

Midway through Slow Horses and great to see Lamb is still as bigger dry fluffybunny as always.
Loved his line to the Home Secretary (or whatever he was)
She runs my diary, without her I don't know what I am supposed to do, giving me more time to fuck with you (something to that effect anyway)

<insert gif of Tom Cruise with shit-eating grin>They could keep the source material and just tighten up the script. Imagine Alan Ritchson in the first Reacher movie - that's what the series should be aspiring to.
Having said that, it still has its redeeming features. Eg: From eight minutes in episode six...

That’s either extreme violence or Dixon’s tits. I shall re-watch either way.

Also, not to harp on this but somehow stormtroopers look like marksman in comparison.

Not sure if mentioned, but True Detective 4 starts on 14th Jan.
Reading this on wiki, I'm looking forward to it: In an interview with The A.V. Club, López credited John Carpenter's The Thing, Stanley Kubrick's the Overlook, and Ridley Scott's Nostromo as inspiration. She said (to HBO) "Guys, me being who I am, I'm going to tap into that and go for it." referring to the supernatural elements of True Detective's first season, that it had Carcosa and the Yellow King.

Halfway through series 1 of The Bear, on a recommendation. Quite like it; it’s growing on me and I enjoy the disorganised way it’s shot in the kitchen.
Loved S1 and S2
It’s not a relaxing watch, but it’s worth it
