    Nicely done from Henry.

Tense time, if Green gets the ton I reckon Australia win the day, if not we do

Pretty much sums up the Australian batting lineup for the last 12 months

1 guy gets a good score, someone else gets 40, and the get themselves around 300.

Their bowlers then roll the opposition for much less than that.

I guess Aus will feel a little better given they were sent in, but that's pretty close to an even days test cricket.

Oh yeah that Australian bowling unit is class, even at their best Southee, Wags, Boult and Jamieson could never quite match them…..

….and said “best” packed up and left town ages ago.

Further to a point I made earlier.

In terms of judging a player on a single performance cricket is one of those sports that it applies to least…..

But fuck me Southee looked terrible. When Henry, O’Rourke and fucken Kuggelin ( did I spell that right ) put in some handy performances and you the captain get none it might be time to have a think about hanging things up.

…..and I say that as a massive fan of him and all he’s done for our best ever era of cricket. Give it away before it gets more embarassing.

The most worrying aspect about Southee's current form is that we probably have to put with it unitl he decides to retire, I can't see him getting dropped.

Given his approach to DRS reviews, he proabably ain't retiring anytime soon.

On his day he has been an absolute pleasure to watch, but those days seem well past now.
He has 7 wickets in his last 10 innings bowling which isn't exactly strike bowler material. Ravindra has 7 in his last 5 innings.

Southee should be done, very ineffective as an opening bowler he just is wasting the new ball.
He has been good for NZ but you have to know when to go like Wagner ,I admired his decision if Southee carries on he will ruin his earlier performances.
It would be sad to see if he is only remembered for what he is producing now.

Wagner retired after he was told he wouldn't be selected though...issue is its unlikely someone is telling the captain that....

Making Timmee captain was probably just another poor decision from Stead. He will drive the bus off the cliff and let the next coach worry about picking up the pieces

For one test not never selected again as he was picked in the squad,Wagner saw the writing on the wall.
Southee needs to do what is right for NZ cricket and himself and retire.
Captains have been dropped before it does happen often.
Who ever made the short sighted decision to make Southee captain needs to fix that very bad mistake and have a whisper in his ear.

Unfortunately. NZ have one of their busiest winters in their history (with 6 away tests and an ICC world cup) while we still wait for Timmy's central contract to expire.

I wonder when Henry's bowling average will be lower than Southee's? There was about a 12 run gap at the start of the season, now it is only 5. They are racing towards each other.

If NZ manage to bat long enough today that Australia need to use Green and Marsh. We will probably see that Southee is the 9th best seam bowler playing in this match.

I know this is a bit of a waaaah post. But it is so frustrating when your worst bowler is taking the new ball etc, makes me want to lash out and rage-post.

Makes me realise that modern day M Marsh is basically CdG pace (and role), and that Southee is also now CdG pace. I'm a big fan of CdG, there can be a place for a 125k bowler who nips it around - CdG was an excellent role player in our team plus he had a batting average of 35. But, this is not the role that Southee is doing.

@Rapido who is a bowler in NZ that would come in for Southee if he was all of sudden jettisoned from the team?

Who could replace Southee There is not much to replace atm.
Zac Foulkes if you want a swing bowler
Ferns if you want a bounce bowler
Lister if you want a left arm option
Duffy if you want a steady
    option
All worth a punt can’t be much worse as strike bowlers.
Sears if you want a quick he has done well when ever given a chance in the short form
Nothing to say he can not transfer that to test level.

    Edit
Henry Shipley back playing now another Tall quick bowling option.

I assume Southee was bowling into the wind yesterday? That should be his role at the Basin. If not, a double mistake.
