Latest Ghostbusters - I can't tell if this was an actual bad movie or just an average movie. Either way it wasn't good.
@MiketheSnow Early on I was wondering how they made an attractive actress look so unattractive.
Tossing up whether to see it. Very mixed reviews. But, how about Ernie Hudson. Holy sh1t!
Yeah, he looked much better aged than Akyroyd and Murray.
If you're a big Ghostbusters fan it might still tick the boxes for you.

Tbf Murray has looked like shit for 50 odd years.

I had the misfortune to be exposed to 30 minutes of the Road House remake. What made-for-streaming, cheap, shitty looking garbage. Slow as fuck, under lighted and just terribly filmed, the women were all absolute dogs. I bet nobody told another man that they used to "fuck guys like you in prison."
The original was shot by the great Dean Cundey, and the rest of the crew was from Die Hard. It was deliberately over the top, knowingly camp and homo-erotic as it tweaked action cliches, full of great performances, and the violence kept escalating until it almost turned into a slasher movie. Fight choreographers were brought in from Hong Kong to make the most of Swayze's dance derived grace and acrobatics.
Fuck everyone involved in that new slop.

A very enjoyable watch
3.5 'I did not know thats' out of 5 'to be or not to bes'
-
Really nicely paced with some very dark humour
3.5 'don't buy any long playing records' out of 5 'let the music play'

@Tim did you stay until McGregor made an appearance?
Thought the CGI was shit, especially with the car crash and the 'croc', was really odd how they all referred to the alligators, as crocs, cos they have Crocs in Florida.
As to McGregor, was cartoonish and like GTA character the way he moved with pumpkins under his arms.
Almost like they deliberately made it shit.

Perhaps in homage to the original?

Oppenheimer
I’ll freely admit to not being the sharpest tool in the shed so I knew I wouldn’t follow any of the “science” side of things in the slightest but by Christ the rest of it absolutely fucken bored me to tears.
Very disappointing, I often love War era movies but this to me was just rubbish. I think I could only manage about half of it so won’t give it a rating.
I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised, whilst some absolutely brilliant movies have won best picture Oscars it’s fair to say some absolute Turkeys have as well.
-
@MN5 I actually know the Oppenheimer story pretty well and enough of the science to follow it easily and I had exactly the same reaction. Glaciers are melting faster than this plot advances. It's well-crafted but it screams "Look at me, I'm Oscar worthy".
I turned it off halfway through with the intent of watching the rest, but haven't yet and probably won't.

That is a very refreshing review. Haven’t watched the film yet but it is on my list. Sorry WAS. Still might watch it but these days I’m looking to be entertained, not educated.
I have a wife for that.
Don’t take my word for it, whilst I’m a pretty big deal on the fern I’m no Leonard Maltin. You might enjoy it

I'm finally nerding out with the lad on the weekend and watching it. Totally not up the alley of the other folk living in the house. Will see if it's gripping or glacial.
May just get smashed on fresh hop and see if I can rattle teh windows with teh big booms

I'm only annoyed by your "turkeys" comment, even if you don't like it it's not a Crash.
I'm midway through a rewatch and it's holding up well (in a way that Tenet didn't on a rewatch).

If you’re into movies about women who can’t talk falling in love with frog men don’t let me judge you
….and Tenet is a terrible flick !
