@antipodean Just once I would like to see an interstellar fleet advance upon a planet protected by a rag-tag group of rebels, and vaporize the surface with relativistic velocity asteroids.

Caught up on a couple of films on my (long) film bucket list this week.

Sunset Blvd from 1950. Blew me away. Simply brilliant film which has to be one of the best about Hollywood ever made. Acting, writing, design, photography and music all outstanding from one of the great directors, Billy Wilder. Don't be put off by the fact it's over 70 years old - its as fresh as ever.

In the Realm of the Senses (1976). Been recommended to me by lots of people but I thoroughly disliked it. Well made and directed (Nagisha Oshima) but just provocative for the sake of it. Over-blown and underwhelming

    @Victor-Meldrew

First one. Spot on everything. Just a great film.

Second one. Soft porn masquerading as art house. Not worth getting the Kleenex out for.

@Mr-Fish I had only seen the American franchise, which is fun as an action monster bash shit up type movie, so I wasn't expecting any kind of deep story line, but Minus One is a genuinely amazing film 🙂

Definitely recommend you catch the one that came out a few years back, Shin Godzilla - very similar vibes!

Half an hour into this and starts a bit shit but becoming decent. Cena is bloody fun to watch eh.

Edit: yeah, watch it. Good fun really and some brilliant lines.

So I watched it this afternoon (I clearly had not watched it). Pretty B/S story but had enough funny "bits" in it to make it good fun, Cena is great, Zac Effron's girlfriend is hot, the Ginga comedian's wife is from Loudermilk, William H Macy was pretty funny too.

It was hilarious how in the last 3rd all of the Aussie actors in it just didn't bother attempting American accents.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One - Streaming on Paramount+

What a steaming pile of horse shite! Utter dross and some of the worst dialogue I've come across on screen and all those long closeups, WTF! Tried to be so serious and deep yet I was laughing out loud and rolling my eyes frequently.

Tom's finally looking old and weary but still loves to run and run. And still very much an average actor (with a few exceptions).

Will not be watching Part 2. as christ this was bad.

Crazy how bad it was considering how good the last one was.

We really enjoyed that, love how horrific they made Godzilla as well. Not as good as Minus One though as the story and character development wasn't as good, but still very cool!

Glad you enjoyed! A bit goofy, especially the early stages of Godzilla, but his city destruction beams etc are amazing.

I watched "The Beautiful Game", a sweet little redemption story starring Bill Nighy, based on true stories concerning the homeless world football cup. Set against the backdrop of Rome, it's all about the power of football to do good in the world. 3.5 Cruyff turns out of 5 world cup final ring-ins

Will check that out with Mrs. Pakman.

I recently watched Twelve Angry Men for the second time ever, and her first, and still found it excellent.

    Late night with the devil

Pretty good. Production values and acting not the greatest, but a good idea and only 90 minutes.

    Really enjoyed it.

You can't take your eyes off David Dastmalchian.

Not sure about the ending. It was good but trying to piece together the meaning.

Your thoughts would be most welcome.
