Movie review thread...
Willow I've always rated as a piece o' crap, and the scenes at Milford Sound always made me cringe, but that's probably just me.
It's a movie of my youth so while you are right in that it is no great shakes, as a kids adventure movie that isn't all "cutesy" and over protective parent friendly, I reckon its all good. -

Speaking of "over protective parent friendly," one thing I approve is that Billy Barty's in it, 55 years after his risque turn "Pettin in the Park" (Gold Diggers of 1933).
(What in the hell were Warner Bros. and Busby Berkeley thinking? Pre-Hayes decency Code... love it!) -

Foul Play is about the most memorable movie he's in, for me. When Goldie Hawn was hot and Chevy Chase was still funny. -
TR Jnr got me to take him to Shrek 12 on Saturday...

It was better than the last one...TR Jnr thought it was great. -
Nephew and niece dragged me to see the new version of "Karate Kid," starring Will Smith's kid and Jackie Chan playing Arnold from Happy Days. Better than I expected... if you find 11 and 12-year-olds fighting like Bruce-Lee-meets-The-Matrix. Should have been called "The Kung-Fu" Kid. The small-fry give it two big thumbs up. I give it 6/10, maybe as high as 6.5.
For all you Nic Cage fans:

http://www.avclub.com/articles/great-job-internet-the-internet-was-built-for-cage,42121/
that would only be a good thing if it would add EVERY copy of every film past, present or future ever made with Nic Cage to your basket so you could conduct a not very controlled explosion on them... -
Hot Tub Time Machine: Four guys spill a V type drink in a spa pool and wind up back in the 80s. Quite a funny comedy, although I expect if you've seen the ad for it most of the funnies would be in there. Has John Cusack going back to his 80s comedy roots. Probably 7/10 if you haven't seen the add and aren't expecting much, probably loses a point or two if you have and are!

Valhalla Rising - utter shit, do not waste your time (1 hr 25mins) on it (set in Vikings time, main Character a one-eyed mute...)
The Losers - fun action film, plenty of shooting and fighting and blowing shit up 6.5/10 -
I haven't scrolled back through the thread so apologies if this has already been mentioned but all I have to say is.....

BLACK DYNAMITE !!!

Suffice to say this is a kung fu, blaxploitation piss take of the highest quality. It even has that 70's graininess to it ( I actually had to IMDB it to see when it was made ) and stars a cheesy, big afroed buff black dude who is as quick with the kung fu as with the cheesy lines. It has to be seen to be believed and as a mate of mine pointed out, two of the most surprisingly funny comedies ever end in "Dynamite" ( the other of course being Napoleon )

Not everyone's cup of tea but I thought this was funny as fuck and highly recommended.
Just watched The Crazies. As far as zombie type movies go this stands head and shoulders above anything recently. Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland are comedies so Im not including them.

Really very tense in some parts with shit your daks moments. No over the top green blood spewing zombies doing the mummy walk gurgling "me want brains". If there is such a thing as intelligent zombies they are in this.
Gotta agree - really enjoyed it. 8/10

Watched "Edge of Darkness" with Mel Gibson. Pleasantly surprised as it has had shit review but it was quite good - though not a patch on the 80's TV series. Captured a lot of the paranoia from the TV series. Thought Ray Winstone was superb as Jedburg. 6/10 -

Justified! -
he was also very good in Deadwood, Hitman, Die Hard 4.0....dont think that has made it to NZ yet (or will?) worth looking for?

Yeah, it's quality TV and Olyphant is excellent in it as a guy with serious repressed anger issues. -
he plays that kind of character a bit, and well...maybe he has the same issues in real life?
-
Walter Goggins also plays a great hillbilly in Justified. Shane Vandrell only 10x more redneck. A fair number of Deadwood alums had guest spots on Justified. I recognized at least 4 or 5. No Ian McShane though. Maybe next season.

Don McKay; bit of an odd black comedy/drama/crime film...

was a little slow to start, but once the story started unravelling, was not too bad. 6.75/10

Has Hayden Thomas Church and Elizabeth Shue as the actors of note....
