Spectre. How very fucking "meh".

Took the kids to "The Secret Life of Pets" yesterday. The chance to explore a really cool concept was missed by the writers, who effectively re-made Toy Story with dogs.
I saw this in the weekend, agree they could have done a lot more with the concept. Pretty shallow plot, really just a series of "pretty funny" moments. The boy laughed a lot though so was great from his perspective.

Yeah but are you a Bond fan ? ( can't remember )
Craig is starting to look a bit bored of it all already but I thought Waltz was awesome as Blofeld and great to see the tough henchman brought into the series, ridicuolously awesome punch up this one although Craig didn't have a single mark on him the next day.....still, no series does a train fight like Bond does....
-
@MN5 not especially, but if you have to a fan of the series to like the movie, then the movie has failed.
That train fight was ridiculous. They tore that train to fucking pieces, in a very public demolition. And what was the result? Fucking nothing. They went and fucked, then the train dropped them off, re-dressed, with all their luggage, where they wanted to go. I know Northern Africa is pretty fucked up, but I'm pretty sure even there a fight of that magnitude is going to draw attention and consequences.
And Bond got his ass handed to him, but showed no outward effects? Fuck off. Remember Casino, the one decent Craig Bond film, where him getting fucked up actually resulted in him ending up in hospital?
I think that was the worst character development of any villain of any movie i have ever seen.
It wasn't a shit movie, it just wasn't all that good.
-
Yeah I agree with that as I said when mentioning he didn't have a mark on him. I guess each movie has to be realistic within it's own universe so that bit irks me more than a bit cos as you mention in Casino Royale he ends up with all sorts of cuts and bruises yet comes up against the toughest brawler yet and has nothing in this flick. I thought the fight was awesome, have always liked the 'hero getting messed up by a huge fucker but somehow winning" thing. It's the aftermath that I didn't like. Still It's not a new phenomenon in Bond, after all Connery went from this classic.....
to this shit......

For some reason my youngest son is obsessed with DeLorean cars so we watched Back to the Future. Now he's obsessed with BTTF. Both my kids got up early the next day and binge watched no. 2 and 3. Having discovered Michael J Fox they then watched Teen Wolf which really isn't a bad film either. They are now crying out for more 80s films. I'm trying to think of appropriate ones for their ages (11 and 8 ). We've done Goonies, Top Gun, Rocky and Indy 3. The other Indies are a bit violent I reckon. Same with Rambo and Arnie's stuff.

Yes Gremlins! Thank you!
They've seen ET and were a bit underwhelmed. Actually I recall I was as well back in the day. Never really understood why that film was so huge.
I remember Never Ending Story being pretty cool. I wonder if that's stood the test of time.

Going to the rapa with my boys this weekend and tracked down the Back to the future trilogy, will give it a go with them and see if they like it as much as I do. I recall the second one has a few pretty unpleasant moments compared to the others ( its been awhile )

Never Ending Story and Labrinth were awesome but probably haven't stood the test of time, the kids might just think they are fucking weird.
I watched ET with the boy a couple of weeks ago, it's a slow moving movie so it didn't hold his attention very well.
-
@Rancid-Schnitzel I downloaded Point Break and Speed last night. Some of the language may not work for an 11 and 8 year old, but I'm pretty damn excited about watching them myself!
BTTF is still my fave movie of all time.

Yeah never got the hype about ET.
Neverending Story though - my kids still liked that. Though that scene with the horse in the swamp.... fucking dust in my eye...

Yeah a bit too violent and those films are from the 90s.
A few more candidates are:
Batteries not included
Inner Space
Twins
No Retreat No Surrender (can't recall too much violence) -
Neverending Story doesn't hold up well IMO.
TR Jnr loves all the films I get for him, grabbed him Kickboxer, Universal Soldier, BTTF and was looking at Spies Like Us, Fletch, 3 Amigos to name a few.
Neither of my kids were that fussed with ET either.
Willow is another worth a look, although can be a little dark in places, Spiderwick Chronicles is cool too.
Cant go past goonies or Princess Bride though.
@Rancid-Schnitzel while it isn't a biggie for some, in Twins there is the scene when Arnie gets his rocks off that is quite blatant...hmmm Kelly Preston.
Kindergarton Cop is ok for kids

Willow and 3 Amigos!!! Some great suggestions here. I recall Project X being pretty good. Bit sad though. They might be a little too young for Dead Poets Society which is a big favourite of mine.
We've seen Spies Like Us (which is actually a bit educational in terms of the Cold War thing), Princess Bride and Ghostbusters. When we were watching BTTF I mentioned that I hope they never remake such an awesome film. My eldest wondered whether if they did remake it would Marty and Doc be girls. Hilarious.

@Rancid-Schnitzel Perhaps The Last Starfighter? I think that's what it is called. About the dude who plays a game of spacies and then ends up having to save a galaxy?
I loved it as a Kid

Yes. 1000 likes!
I wonder how that one has aged. The thing is that a lot of the cartoons my kids watch are choc full of 80s references and they want to know all about them. I remember there being one reference to the Last Starfighter.
Cheers for the suggestions. These are gold!

i watched it the other day. If you can handle the "CGI" looking like a bad 90s video game, then the rest is still pretty cool.
