@MN5 ironic that a count-back would more than likely show you as having the most posts on the guy
Rrrrrrraaaaiiiiinnn
@Hooroo and others are more full of hate though.
....and yours are definitely the gayest.

Does anybody hate him? I don't think so , I know that I don't.
I just don't really care for the baggage that goes with him - of which not all his fault.
I love watching him play rugby, the sideshow that comes with him is very boring.
-
Yeah I'm a huge fan of how he plays. No matter what @MN5 says, the guy has put in and been a real asset to the AB squad. I personally don't think he did this to cause a stir. I saw it during the game and didn't even think a second thought. I was just hoping he'd wouldn't play well so the Landers would win.
I've seen other Super rugby players put tape on logos whether it's on compression gear or headgear. Those appear to be for financial and/or contractual purposes. This appears to be the same given its a contractual reason that has allowed him to tape over a sponsor.
It's neither here nor there for me. Bring on next week.

@Stargazer Good post with well thought out argument - I don't agree with it, but your points are clear and succinct.
That is totally unacceptable. The fern did not get to where it is today with that sort of reasoned response

Perhaps SBW could get an alternative sponsor to NIB for example and donate the cash to the team funds? Now that he is in Auckland he could get the Newmarket Organic Bakery (you could have Kingsland Newmarket, if the spelling offends).
Maybe All Nippon Airways could add the Ltd to their logo and put that on his jersey? Should go in front of the bakery abbreviation.
Actually I couldn't care less about his antics, just want the teams he plays for now to do well.

I've never said he wasn't a good player

Of all the headlines this guy has created over the years... this is the first time I believe he did do it to create a fuss. Not saying he doesn't believe in what he's doing, but there are any number of ways he could have handled it that wouldn't have created this distraction for his team.
-
So he's released a statement ...
Which proves the SBW apologists right - learning religon etc ... but does nothing to change the view of those who view he did it the way he did for attention seeking purposes.
Divisive character!

Haha he's been a Muslim for 9 years and only now realised that Islam prohibits banks that charge interest? Nice one SBW.

I don't get this viewpoint at all. To me it smacks of wanting find a reason for his actions that fits in with an overall view of not liking the attention he gets.
I didn't even notice the tape during the game, it was my son that pointed it out to me during a front on replay. I was too busy looking to see what his comeback form was like.
If he wanted to attract attention he could have gone about things in a far more obvious way or released a statement before the game so everyone noticed.
To counter your point @Milk how could he have done this in a way that didn't cause a distraction? To me it looks like that's what he tried to do. No statement, no grandstanding, just a bit of tape and get on with the game.
It's the media that continues to highlight every time the guy farts. He makes easy headlines and stories.
Sure, some of his personal decisions make things even easier for them but I reckon you could take any number of players and , if placed under the microscope in the manner SBW is, would cough up headlines (Aaron Smith found that out, was he attention seeking?)
Was Micheal Jones attention seeking by not playing Sundays? Graeme Mourie by refusing to play SA?
I think SBW is tarred with the attention seeking brush because many of his acts and decisions have made headlines not just the odd one or two but that's not his fault, he doesn't put himself on the front page or top story. His only option is to completely tow the line and do nothing slightly out of the ordinary but why should he? He has his own life to live.
You'll probably also guess by now that I totally disagree with Bill English on this.

I don't adhere to any faith whatsoever but it's pretty obvious that anyone who does will do so to any manner of degrees of adherence, knowledge or understanding depending on their personal viewpoints or requirements.
How many Catholics fully know or adhere to the tenets of that religion or follow it's 'rules' to the letter? How many would pick, choose and change their views over their lifetime?I'll get shot down by the usuals on this but I am starting to wonder whether much of the comment regarding this is because of the Muslim aspect? It is a religion that most of us in the western world fail to understand.

I don't think it's a publicity stunt at all. As I've mentioned before, people develop beliefs and opinions.
Frankly i think it's both.

I would say the majority of Catholics have never even read the bible. The majority of them are complete fucking idiots.
But that's beside the point.
Islam is not some mystical thing that us westerners cannot hope to understand. It's actually fairly straight forward - the Koran is basically a bunch of messages from "Allah" that dictate how a Muslim is meant to live his/her life. Far easier to decipher than the bible which is more a bunch of wildy contradictory stories about morality, and you're meant to try and draw your own conclusions on them. Which is why fundamentalist Christians like west boro contradict the shit out of themselves all the time.
But I won't go into that further as that's a topic of "Off-Topic", except to say I don't buy that SBW has suddenly realised Islam prohibits banks that charge interest. He just decided he's going to make a statement by taping over the logo without warning anyone, including his own fucking employer.

I think you are simply re-enforcing my point there.
From my basic understanding there is no clear instruction in the Koran regarding 'Riba' as there is no clear definition or understanding of what it is or how it is defined. many Muslims will argue different views on the point just as Christians will argue points in the Bible (as you say).
It comes down to how you personally want to follow your faith.I agree that not informing his employer was a poor decision but disagree that he was 'making a statement' to anyone but himself. Has he preached to anyone that they should follow his beliefs? Ever?

I agree with @Crucial. If you think Islam is that simple to understand, you're wrong. Islamic doctrine has several sources, not just the Qurʾān. There's also the Hadith, ijmāʿ and qiyās (in in Sunni Islam) or ijtihād (in Shiʿism). There are also different denominations, stemming from different schools of jurisprudence, who have different views on interpretation and application of Islamic law. So it is actually not that straight forward beyond the five pillars of Islam. As you said, this is off-topic, so I'm not going to say more about it.

So will he play games at Westpac Stadium? Where does he draw this silly line?
Does he return the portion of his salary contributed by these sponsors? Or is he happy to take their money?
Is that any of our business? Isn't that something between him and NZR/Blues, and between NZR/Blues and the sponsor?
