My nine year old is starting rugby again, and the last time he played he had all sorts of trouble fitting the mouthguard.

No matter how we moulded it, it kept slipping down. Any advice on how to fit it properly? Happy to spend more money if it's a quality thing, is their a place to get them fitted properly?

I never played with one, so know nothing about them. I don't want him worrying about it falling out when he's out there.

Coming from a professional, go to a clinical denture technician. Will cost around 50 to 80 bucks but they are vacuum fitted on a model and fit like a glove

If you want to try again with a shop bought one you will probably need to heat it up with hotter water than they recommend ie recently boiled and push it up high over the roots of the canine teeth. Also jnr needs to suck his cheeks in hard then drop in cold water

Thanks, have tried variations on this with no luck. What am I searching for the dental approach?

If money is no object just go to the dentist. I always got mine from there and they are both effective, and barely noticeable because they fit so well. I could chat in mine no worries it was stuck to my teeth.

In my experience you could never get a shop bought to fit perfectly, no matter the brand

A clinical denture technician makes dentures mouthguards etc but is also able to take mouth impressions. This way you save costs because they can do the whole thing from start to finish. If you go to a dentist they will cost more because they will probably charge you for taking the impressions and fitting which is a piece of piss. Ask them if they can take impressions and make mouthguards.any more than 85 bucks in Auckland and I'd say you can do better. You in Akld?

There are plenty of good labs. They pretty much can't fuck it up. Ask those questions you should be sweet. Ask to see samples if you feel the need. Once you get it don't leave it anywhere hot like window sills. Jnr will enjoy the improved comfort

@Kirwan I thought this would be about Tony Johnson driving you to grinding your teeth down again.
