Movie review thread...

Been travelling NZ the last couple of weeks but managed to see some movie on the plane:
Mile 22
I like that it wasn't just a "YEEHAW MURICA!" ending on this one - very much in keeping with what I imagine the world of espionage to be like i.e. nobody really fucking wins in the big picture. Plenty of pew-pew and splosions and Ronda Rousey being mannish, while the very tasty Lauren Cohan was the lead female. Wahlberg's character is angry a lot, but has an admirable lack of fucks to give. The Asian guy Asian-guyed the fuck out of it, and the Russians got involved up to their revenging ball hairs.
4 fictional Asian nations out of 5 shouty Wahlbergs.

Ghost In The Shell
I thought this was a pretty good homage to the anime movie of 1995, tho of course the storylines diverge in significant ways.
Parts of the visual and score are pure manga/anime mashups, and overall I thought it was really well done.
4 skin tight Johansson suits out of 5 ghost hacks.

Anyone seen the Bird Box? Didn't love it but it was the first movie in I don't know how long that gave me a nightmare that same night.
Obviously being set up for a Netflix series?
I really enjoyed it. Lots of 'edge of your seat' moment.

I hear ya and I didn't hate it, I'm just not a fan of those types of movies. True-love is the one that gets into them

yeah I watched it, was decent, rushed ending though.
@Hooroo Dont watch the Haunting of Hill House on Netflix then bro, that'll def have you up at night

No chance of me watching that purely because of the title.
Bird Box suckered me in... I thought it was a metaphor...

Don't know that it'll go a series. Fuck it was tense tho.

Ya see, I didn't get these memes as to why Sandra Bullock was super imposed into them.
Now I do -
Marry Poppins Returns
It pissed rain one day in Dunedin - only time we got real rain the whole trip - and so we headed into the local Reading for a movie. Plus we were still running on Australian time so 9PM start was no biggie.
Have to say it stands up pretty well for those that like the original and are a fan of musicals (which excludes a lot of people here). Well written, both the story and the music / score. Blunt is hot and plays the part well. Lin-Manuel Miranda does a bloody good job also (no surprise - he's a fucking genius).
Overall I really liked it, having been fairly cynical going in.
4 leeries out of 5 chimney sweeps.

Aquaman
Let's get straight to it: Mrs TA really liked this film because of fucking course she did! When he said "Permission to come aboard" I looked at her, and I think most women went this way but for realsies:
However, she did claim that there was not nearly enough shirtless action. I was going to agree verbally when it came to Amber Heard, but thought better of it.
I thought the film was good - particularly casting and getting the balance of humour and action right - but they reached for the spectacular a little too often and I couldn't take it all in.
Definitely the best DCEU movie so far, and a large part of it was no doubt due to an Aussie director and Aussie crews and Aussie locations....
4 fish cakes out of 5 sea horses.
*Did I take advantage of Momoa warming up the wife back at the motel later? You fucking bet I did.

It was stressful as fuck. The kind of movie you regret watching halfway through but then have to finish it to see what the fuck happens in the end.

The end kind of sucked for me. Yeah cool, they were saved but no detail on what was smoking them and also how they could 'kill' it

I'm actually really sorry about that. I wasn't thinking about I was giving the end away, more that I was having a conversation about it.
I will try and remember to Spoiler it next time.
