I tried a selection of beers from Laughing Bones last weekend. The Pale Ale was my favourite.

Shit, I hope it’s someone else’s round when this one comes up !

'Five times the regular price': Is this NZ's most expensive beer?

'Five times the regular price': Is this NZ's most expensive beer?

It comes with an outrageous price tag — but experts say it's more than justified.

    @MN5

An Auckland pub is pouring a beer that will set you back $25 for a small 200ml glass, and beer experts say the price tag is more than justified.

Well they are hardly gonna say gonna say it's shit, dont buy it are they!

For Eats, this glass of beer is much better value for money than most average glasses of wine people pay for at restaurants: "People don't blink at paying $25 for a glass of decent wine at any given wine bar but for that price you're getting to experience something really special," he said.

Craft beer brewers and drinkers have long touted that line. If I wanted a glass of wine, I'd buy a glass of wine, but when I want a beer, it's usually hot, and I'm knocking half it back in the first go, not a fan of non-sessionable beers, so paying that much for a couple of mouthfuls aint gonna fly

Have gone off plenty of IPA's lately that seem far too hoppy now, but am liking HAZY IPA's and Pilsners, but in the heat at present, just as happy to smash a few Corona/Sol/Pure/Heine/Red or anything like that.

My fridge has Sol, Pure plus 2 half doz cans of Hazy's.

@taniwharugby I'd try it and enjoy it I reckon.

So different to a filthy export in summer after mowing the lawn

The guy comes across as a complete craft beer piston wristed gibbon the way he describes heinie haha.

I’m off to the Hawkes Bay next week and yes, like others my main preference will be for something semi decent at an ice cold temperature. Corona preferably.

Sorry don't want to come across all beer piston wristed gibbon bit I really don't get the Corona stuff. To me it's barely even beer and is popular because of a succession of extremely good marketing campaigns not because of its intrinsic worth. Same with all the light lagers which to me all taste the same.

If I'm that hot and thirsty I'll have ice cold water to cool down and then a decent beer to enjoy.

Corona doesn't function without Lime or Lemon......but again, it's a beer I drink only in the summer months. Any other time I won't touch it and will go for something crafty.
There is still a place in my life to have a bit of a session on them and as of next week I'll be doing just that every night I assume. Not to mention I don't think the Craft beer selection near where we're staying will be particularly extensive.

    piston wristed gibbon!

    Corona is shit though

But if you are doing anything outside in 30+ temps, an ice cold mass produced, mid strenght lager definitely hits the spot

had a session at the new Sydney outfit that has started brewing up here

    https://sauce.beer/our-beers/

It was a little bitter/sweet as they have taken over the site of our old brewery that just didn't make it (a vase study on the importance of timing in successful businesses)

Anyway, not bad. Their "flagship" pale ale was pretty average. But the Extra Hop Sauce was good, the Bubble and Squeak was fucking excellent, and the extra extra hop was good too.

The upshot was, 4 hours smashing schooners of 6.5% - 8.2% beers and i was proper old school hammered.

    Will go again.

Finally tried another smaller local joint that people rave about and couldn't find a single beer of theirs i actually enjoyed,

I had a sensational Lion Brown on a hot day after helping move a fridge up a few flights of stairs.

Everything is relative, reminds me of this.....

@MN5 ha I have a prolific fruiting lime tree, so any mass brewed beer gets the lime treatment these days!

What I drink depends on how much I intend drinking, if only 1 or 2 (which TBH is most of the time) I do tend to try out some quality craft beers, but when I'm gonna neck a few, happy to go for something more mainstream.

I recall when I was in the UK, Export Gold was like nectar compared to most other UK tap beers I had been drinking!

Yeah a big session on serious Craft Beers ( many north of 8% ) will give ya a hell of a headache. I found that out the hard way after a shitload of Panhead APAs. Not to mention they bloat the fuck out of you. It’s no coincidence that Craft Beer barons look like walking puddings with big beards.

I think the problem is that so many mass produced 4% beers ( like Tui, fuck you Tui ) just taste so bland , empty and disappointing.
