yeah, yeah, yeah
yeah, yeah, yeah

That one required phenomenal talent.

That's a rock song? The lyrics are a bit light, but at least somebody sat down and wrote lead, rhythm guitar section, a bass line and a drum beat to that song... instead of just just chucking on some randomly generated beat and then swearing over the top of it. -

Indeed it did. Deceptively so. Any songwriter would be proud to have written it, compositionally and lyrically. It's easy to giggle at the chorus, but the verses tell an actual story, with a lesson about life. I'm not ordinarily in the habit of defending the Beatles, but that song is genius.
You think you lost your love,
Well, I saw her yesterday.
It's you she's thinking of
And she told me what to say.

She says she loves you
And you know that can't be bad.
Yes, she loves you
And you know you should be glad.

She said you hurt her so
She almost lost her mind.
But now she said she knows
You're not the hurting kind.

You know it's up to you,
I think it's only fair,
Pride can hurt you, too,
Apologize to her

Because she loves you
And you know that can't be bad.
Yes, she loves you

with a love like that
You know you should
Be Glad!
-

I agree with the Jack White comment but not the second about Snoop. You have basically belittled an entire genre of music by showing how little you know about. Granted Snoop D O double G is a mere shadow of his former self he did far more than "swearing over a beat" in his earlier days. Its a different talent, than guitar playing, and suggesting he doesn't write his own stuff will get you shot <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />.

The whole thing about rap, real rap not the shit that gets turned out to get kids dancing in night clubs and what Snoop made hius name on, is that he is drawing off his personal experiences and then puting it into a song. Not unlike country and western music. Yes theres a lot of swearing but in most of these peoples lives swearing is like breathing and to leave it out wouldnt be a true representation of their lives which in most cases is what rap is about. Life.

If its not a talent MR then that basically means anyone can do it so I challnge you to write a rap song!
Awesome post Raz. They don't come any whiter than me but as one of my fob mates said when we were cruising in his ride listening to Busta Rhymes at lunchtime ( and naturally perving at female joggers on ori bay ) "I have a black mans heart"

Like any music there is the awesome ( Snoop, Busta, Pharell, Naughty by Nature, Grandmaster Flash, The Sugarhill gang ) and there is the shit ( as in shit, not "the shit" ) ( 50 cent and numerous other "gangstas" ).

But yeah suggesting Snoop doesn't have talent is bordering on insane, you have saved yourself a bit with the Jack White thing cos that guy is the second best slide guitarist on earth ( Johnny Winter will never be beat ).

There are some seriously talentless piston wristed gibbons out there ( Idol stars, most bands from Manchester, most of todays autotuned to hell shit on ZM ) but yeah, to reiterate, Snoop is not one of them although I will concede as Raz did that he has definitely sold out compared to some of his earlier stuff.

Snoop is in the esteemed MN5 top ten of all time. -
A bit more talentless rap for you MR...... <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/eusa_whistle.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> no matter how many times I hoon in the Ford Focus with this up loud ( I know, not very Gangsta ) I can only sing along to about 15% of it........
Firstly I don't have to write anything as I wasn't the one dismissing a particular type of music. Secondly really MR there are plenty of rappers that do not swear. Lastly "randomly generated beat" are you serious? How exactly do you think those beats come into being? You do realise that those "randomly generated beats" are composed by actual people don't you?

I can understand people not liking particular things but your reasons, at least the ones you have suggested here are both lazy and misinformed.

I will give you your due though for at least attempting it. -
Reading some more posts I realise that the music world is insane. I mean "Every breath you take" by the Police....the Piano solo is quite literally ONE FUCKEN NOTE ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

But it works.

.....and the Police are also in my all time top ten.

MR, that was actually quite a dope rhyme, do you have the cred to pull it off ? <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/knuppel2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':knuppel:' />
Disagree strongly. I have listened to and enjoyed more types of music all my life. It's my lifeblood, and I have the hearing of an 80 year old to prove it.

I like pretty much so any music where I can recognise a talent. I acknowledge what is and isn't to my taste, but I just see no talent in your average rap song. I don't care that i'm in the minority of this, I just think it's utter shit & any talentless buffoon can do it. You can even make a living out of it if you decide to act like you come from "da hood" - regardless of if you do or not.

MN5 - Ironic that the song you chose above, was covered and rapped over (with even what I will admit are nice heartfelt lyrics) to become one of the best selling, if not the best selling, rap songs of all time.

Voltron - so you don't like rap either? Cool, thought it was just me. -

Grandmaster Flash and the Sugarhill Gang were both just awesome, they really are the Bill Haley/Elvis equivalents as artists who basically created their genre.....
