@Nepia as an indication of how cool my spotify is, it has just popped up with Les Claypool playing "My Name is Mud" but in spanish. WTF?
I had to google that whole post - maybe an indication of how uncool I am musically and why my spotify hates me.

Cancelled Spotify today.
Lots of the music I like isn't on there in any form. There's very few good remixes or edits of classic or "balearic" tunes (Youtube has a lot of them, so does Soundcloud). Few good mixes (loads on Soundcloud), and their suggestions are poor (Youtube is really good as suggesting similar music).
Also, little of my sub would go to the musicians l like anyway (payments are not based on each user's listens, but rather on the total listens from all users).

Did you completely close your account or just cancel your paid subscription?

@jegga Apparently the labels have also been taking a big share of the streaming royalties that are supposed to go to performers, and justifying it by streaming vs. physical sales. Bands have had to sue all parties to get their money. I think Toto got over a million back.

Doesn't surprise me , record companies are notoriously amoral . What are you using instead of spotify?

Billy Corgan on his Rogan chat was saying something about this. I think his point was the record companies went and bought the streaming services so they could continue to fuck the artists.

When Corgan was on Rogan he referenced this letter that Courtney Love is supposed to have written

That is the thing I hate about spotify - that the artists are not getting paid what they should be for it. However, I realistically mainly listen to music that I originally bought the CD for anyway ...
Some geeza with more time than me has created The Trip playlists based on the classic NZ compilation albums ... Thats pretty much so my rotation of late.
Killing in the name of came on over family dinner last night .. had to discreetly get up and change the track early doors (phones are banned from the dinner table in the rage house).

My old band is on Spotify. Second single with yours truly on Bass. Given that I don't think I'm quite going to get the same sort of listening numbers as Peter Frampton I might have to put my plans of retiring and living off royalties on hold.
Whats the band? Will defo have a listen.

You raise two good points. Firstly, I mainly listen to music I purchased years ago. I doubt I'm the only person who finds it slightly irritating to have to pay again because the delivery media has altered. In fact for a long time in Australia it was a crime to make a copy of music you had paid for, or to change the format; i.e. buy a record and instead of listening to that, putting it onto CD, or an iPod...
The second is unless streaming services are priced low enough, people simply pirate in which case you won't get a goddamn cent no matter how many times it's played.

I have bought a fuck ton of music, they got their money from me. At $30 for a CD in the 90s I reckon I've paid my dues.
Killing in the Name is on regular rotation. I'll play half of it if the kids are around. My boys love Bullet in the Head.
When my son was wandering around the house singing Fugazi the other day I thought how much I was nailing parenting

@MajorRage I can't find those trip playlists. Can you provide more info?
I already did the first one for myself, but i also liked the 2nd and 3rd compilations
