i made the mistake of watching a countdown of the top 20 songs by bands playing at the BDO this year. Based on what i saw, i wouldn't pay $25 for a ticket, let alone what ever fucked up price they are putting on them these days.

it can't purely be my age that makes it seem like all music these days is made by whiney effeminate hipster douchbags

I assume it was 20 songs by 20 bands ... not the top 20 songs, otherwise it would just be between three artists.

In the past I'd go to BDO as you'd be sure to uncover a couple of unknown bands just kicking off ... but this year doesn't seem like there are up and comers ... although it may just be my age. If I can fangle a free ticket I'll go but I'm not paying to go.

An absolute killer of a track. Banned in Australia for being too filthy for just one woman to sing.

Stumbled across some SOA soundtrack stuff the other day and have had it on listen since.

I'm normally not a 'rock' fan but these 'Forest Rangers' guys that do most of the soundtrack are fine musos. You realise after listening to it without the distraction of the visuals what a hugely important part of the show the music is.

This version of Stevie Wonder's 'Higher Ground' is great.

Even the tracks where Katey Sagal sings are OK. I never realsed until looking it up the she used to be a backing singer for some top artists.

Mate of mine at Uni was a big soundtrack fan. Played me a few things from movies and yeah it's amazing how you link all that stuff together.

Im currently bleeding from the ears having to listen to James Blunt, Jason Derulo and Katy Perry. What ever radio station this is if ever I was to start a gun touting rampage Im starting it there. Its the only radio station we can get at work and for some reason if we plug the ipod in our data usage triples when streaming or the network slows down if we play from preexisting playlists.

Honestly I have heard Derulo's "Trumpets" 5 times today.

Have had the pleasure of listening to alot on accoustic stuff by The Naked And The Famous lately. My neighbor Dave is in the band and he's been home for a week or two ahead of the BDO. He's sits outside playing most nights but they had bit of an impromptu jam session there on Sunday. Was good to sit on the deck with a beer and listen too.

Marvin's voice for sure but Marvin was way too cool do dance around in such an animated way.

This clip of him on 'Ready Steady Go' is the epitome of the man in his coolest.

Surrounded by teenage boys that would kill to be anywhere near as cool, and teenage girls that would drop their panties and freak out their mums by shagging a black man in a second if given the chance.

Marvin couldn't dance, that's true, he was awkward, and in fact for his entire career had stage-fright and was never comfortable performing. But that shyness only made him more sensitive and attractive to the females. The Hairspray cut definitely captures the sound and energy of Gaye/Motown from his early-sixties singles period.

As far as squealing chicks, I love the female shrieks in the live versions of "Distant Lover." Gaye had a few songs he developed over the years that he wanted to be his Big Epic Centrepiece, and for a period in the 70s this was the one.
