My mate is convinced India didn't go flat out in order to make it hard for Pakistan to qualify.

Yep, Pakistan needed India to win more than we did.

As others have said, if NZ can't beat England we don't deserve to be in the SFs.

but if we lose we can still sneak in theoretically ?

not just theoretically - our NRR is better than both Pakistan and the Bangles. So yeah - unless we get smoked, adn one of them collapses (in a totally legitimate way) we should still sneak through.

Hey - once we're in teh knockout, we could go full England 2007, or France 2011 and make a run 🙂

My memory might be getting hazy now I'm in my 40's but I didn't even know France played cricket. How bout that.

Eye gouging, testicle grabbing gallic flair would go down a treat in Test Cricket I'm sure 🙂

Helmets and boxes to dissuade French from giving cricket a crack!

Classic French players would smoke Gauloise while batting.

    And fielding.

    And probably bowling 😃

    Whilst wearing berets!

fark it, now I want France to play cricket. Wine at the lunch interval too ...

England were poor v SL and Aus then looked like world beaters v India. Here's hoping we can have a similar turnaround.

    Pakistan RR= -0.792
    NZ RR = +0.572

If it comes down to RR it will probably be tight.

Yep - that heavy loss was as bad as it gets. If we get pumped again, and the Bangles get smashed, that could be us done.

That said, if we lose heavily to Aus and England, and don't play India, and lose to Pakistan we don't deserve to make the semis.

    Agree 100%.

Weirdly the Bangles still have an outside chance of making the semis. Very unlikely but with the vagaries of sport they could still upset Pakistan and the result on Wednesday won't matter.

Wouldn't they have to get past BOTH India AND Pakistan?

Yep. A very outside chance in other words.

Chances of them just upsetting Pakistan are a bit more likely. In which case Pakistan will only have themselves to blame.

A letter to King Louis XI in 1478 may contain the first known reference to the sport of 'criquet' being played in the village of Liettres in northern France, though the first evidence of it in England was in 1550.

Good spot. I just wonder about the translation:

The letter was penned by a young man called Estiavannet, who watched with fascination at the strange game before a player barked: ‘Why are you staring at our ball game?’. A violent scuffle ensued, and one man died.

the 1400s version of "what are you staring at fluffybunny?" followed by a glassing? When was rum invented?

A fat bloke with a shiny head was seen trying to run away from the training ground. A tyre iron was found thrown in a garden. Investigations are continuing

Seeing chasing teams flounder lately. Toss has become important on wearing slowing wickets.

do Bangladesh owe Pakistan any favours?

I mean they win the toss, would they put Pakistan in to bat to give them a chance, however slim?

East Pakistan fought a war of Independence against Pakistan. It is pretty widely accepted that Pakistan military carried out genocide with up to 3 mill killed and 400K women raped.

Declaration of independence was prompted by mass killings against East Bengali dissidents.

Most Bangladeshi's wouldn't have been around 50 years ago but it sounds a bit more serious to me than an underarm incident so guessing it still lingers on the consciousness.
