@MN5 oh I've felt the despair at some of Southee's bowling performances for sure. He's not quite quick enough to get away with anything not swinging or placed on a dime

    But

Save the denigration for when he deserves it and he's got a clean slate so far for the next month. He looked good on Saturday, bowled within himself too from what I saw.

Performed superbly at his last WC.

But sure, don't let him anywhere near reviews!

What is everyone's predictions for the BCs this tournament?

I feel similar to '99 and to a lesser extent '11 where they are going to be going to overachieve just enough to disappoint.

If it swings, we're in like Flynn.

Fuck I hope not. The team can do way better these days than recalling Daniel Flynn.

No expectations, lots of hope 🙂

Is there still room on the Warriors Black Caps bandwagon?

Unless you can provide at least ten years of fern related Black Caps support then no. Go and become a fan of Team NZ or Lydia Ko when she does well instead.

Just watching a warm up match between Sri Lnaka and Australia. Australia used the DRS system (correctly as it turned out after a caught behind was initially given not out) but it is just a warm up match for goodness sake!

DRS judgement is as much a part of the game now as any other skill I guess.

I think we're probably the fourth best team in terms of talent. Australia, England and India will all beat us more often than not - but we'll be competitive against them most of the time.

South Africa look like a team of old men out for their last hurrah. Pakistan has lost a massive streak of games so hopefully down on confidence. Windies could be dangerous.

One of our CWC strengths has always been not losing to bunny teams and we need to make sure we put away Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka - all of which we should, but any of which could derail us. Heard Ian Smith the other day saying that we do not want to play Afghanistan on a spinners pitch.

So bank those points. Beat at least two of the three teams that are competitive with us - and tip over at least one of the top three and we should make the play-offs - at least 6/9.

Not sure that there's too much benefit in terms of winning the tournament in finishing any higher than fourth, so fourth in the round robin will do me.

After that it's a crap shoot. I'll be disappointed to miss the play-offs, rapt if we can do better.

We should be everyone's second favourite team. Let's face it Australia is everyone's most hated team. Then there's India - they're the most hated as well. And England - them too - they're the worst! 🙂

I heard that interview too. Smithy is actually really good value when he's not wanking on about Hawkes Bay with the kind of gusto that would make @Nepia blush.

Great summary and mostly accurate. Sri Lanka are basically a bunny team overall which is sad but true. In saying all that India aside I'm not sure England and Oz are that much, if any, better than us though.

Tournament is surely Indias for the taking.

It is just a warm up game, which presumably has not been accorded full official status, designed to get the participants involved familiar with the likely conditions they will encounter along with a bit of general match practice. Using DRS in those circumstances is a bit like using citing commissioners and TMOs is a Golden Oldies rugby match. Having said that there has been some serious rucking etc (although nothing malicious and always with great laughter and smiles) involved in Golden Oldies games as people relive times past which might justify those things!

Are the times for all games essentially the same ?

I can see a monday morning off after the Aussie game might be in order.

A Day/nighter in the UK would be awesome from a NZ perspective, keeping the old match tracker going in one of the many windows I have open on the laptop.....

I'd look at it the other way....its a warmup game so if you are a batsmen then you are out there to bat....bat as long as ya can...use DRS just like ya normally would. Its part of the game now

Seems either 9.30pm start or 12.30 for day/nighters (our games vs Afg, WI, Aus). Semis and final 9.30pm starts
