The last 100 odd posts shows what the politics forum is missing. Some great discussion with good balance across the sides and little snide remarks.
Well played.
It's great having the lefties join in the fun for a change.
Edit - probably because we actually have something more meaningful to discuss than gender identity now.
This is why we avoid the politics section, you guys are obsessed with identity politics and won't shut about gender when all we want to do is debate health care, the economy, etc etc.

Oh and Jacinda, yet again is smashing the global popularity contest!!!
Have to admit the Easter Bunny comment was inspired.
she was beaten by a few days by, of all people, the Qld Premier.

Numbers look pretty good. Especially the hospitalisation number 🍩

They have to get border controls sorted out, sounds like there is still opportunity for the virus to be carried back from abroad. I don't want to be locked down any longer than I have to be, so cleaning up the country only for some one to bring the virus back to start over again will not be cool
-
There are 50 new cases - 26 confirmed and 24 probable. This takes the the total confirmed and probable cases to 1210.
- There are 12 significant clusters. Community transmission accounts for 2 per cent of cases.
- 12 people are in hospital - four in ICU, two of which are critical. 282 people have recovered.
- One person has died from coronavirus so far.
- 46,975 tests have been carried out to date - 4096 were performed yesterday.

It’s the one major area the govt has failed, happy with everything else they have done. The lock down included. But has felt they could have stoped more cases from getting out
and if we do stamp this out inside NZ, then it's the most critical way to stop further infection
-
@Virgil yeah it is frustrating, but then has been the case since they started the 'self isolation' a few weeks back, then supposedly tighter restrictions a few days later, plenty of stories circulating that it was too lax...
being as isolated as we are, strict protocols at the border should have been our first and foremost weapon in fighting this.
Although, I guess you could argue, that since these seemingly underwhelming restrictions, the numbers have shown that it has slowed the spread....
I know our tourism industry would take a hit, but shutting our borders to any non-essential travel would surely be the best approach?
-
What the fuck is the govt doing?? Zero point in this lock down and the economic carnage that has happened if they leave the borders weak.
-
@taniwharugby said in Coronavirus - New Zealand:
I think if the world borders remain tight for a sustained period, most of the tourist dollars NZers spent outside NZ will end up being spent in NZ, one reason many dont holiday here is the cost, so if the industry wants to get back on it's feet, appealing to the average NZer that would typically go to Fiji, Gold Coast, Bali etc is going to be key.
I'm already considering where in NZ to take the family in the Winter holidays now that all planned overseas trips are canned. I think the NZ tourist industry is set to have a strong middle and second half of the year because I suspect I'm not alone

I've just been listening to the live stream.
The testing criteria blows my mind. They raised the specific case of someone with C19 symptoms, and tests positive. The wife who lives with them doesn't qualify for a C19 test What The Actual Fark??? How the hell do we know where C19 is in the community if we're not testing people who could have been exposed to this?
My mind is blown. Hopefully someone can correct or update me, as this just doesn't make any sense to me at all
-
@nzzp I was in Sydney for the cricket with some mates. Came back early on the Sunday to avoid being isolated (didn't matter; that changed three days later anyway and I had to isolate). On the Friday I went to my GP because I felt a bit shit, and was told I wasn't Covid-19 symptomatic so didn't need a test but I did have an ear and throat infection, and was given a prescription. A week later one of my mates was also feeling under the weather, didn't believe he was symptomatic but goes to see his GP and immediately gets sent for a test. How does that work??
-
apparently Northland Police have had to set up a check point on SH1 south of Whangarei to turn back people trying to head north (from Auckland) for Easter

@taniwharugby the secession has started!
