So I spoke to a hotel operator just now. Said they've been given notice they came accept bookings during L4.
Do you guys take that to mean that travel by car is OK during that period?
I don't think travel from town to town is ideal....

My brother in Brisbane is (below)
the Director of Intensive Care and Chair of the Resuscitation Committee at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. He has worked on the epidemiology and treatment of sepsis with the ANZICS clinical trials group, and is on the steering committee for the ADRENAL study. The subject of his PhD was inert gas kinetics and respiratory physiology, which ties in well with his out of work activities as a mixed gas rebreather diver.
Speaking to him, he thinks a vaccine will be about 6 months in the making. Have we heard any better than that? I've seen stuff all in the media around the vaccine for this.

@voodoo Would have to be to get groceries etc. Maybe they would make you do a trip planner to the local supermarket on your phone or something. Police could then check your phone to see where you have been. Not sure. Depends just how strict they get.

@Hooroo I think I read 12-18 months so anything sooner would be a bonus. The bigger issue is my understanding is Corona is a family of virus like Influenza, so there are mutations all the time. This particular one we have now is one of the worst. We could get a vaccine and then it mutates into something else just as bad. Just like you can always catch the flu (different strain) even though you get a shot. I hope this isn't the case but my worst case scenario brain is thinking it.

That would be amazingly fast. (There is still no vaccine for SARS.) Which leads to two questions:
Is that when it is in clinical trials or finished clinical trials, and how long to ramp up to full availability?
What efficacy would it have? 50% protection?

Dude, you need his number as I would have no idea how to answer any of those.

I wonder if we would have tried to ride it out for longer if we were going into summer. The healthcare system is already stretched over winter.

Singapore is in eternal Summer, and they jumped right on it

So 7 Sharp did a story on a lady who was hospitlaised for CV, even had someone interview her in her campervan outside her home after she was released from hospital...luckily she had a facemask on, I assume to stop the reporters giving her another dose?
About 24 mins in if you are keen....you need to login to TVNZ Ondemand to watch

I finally got to the Healthcare hotline. Option 3 is reporting someone. Option 4 is for if you feel sick yourself. Seems backwards.
Update - I hit #2, the enquiry line for people in self-iso, and got a new message saying they were too busy, and to call back later
Haven't managed to speak to a real person since I arrived on Wednesday.

@voodoo hi voodoo, the Fern is currently operating at full capacity. A poster will be along soon to respond to your post/query.
Press F to pay respects 🤣
Dude I would hate to see their call volumes. Especially the needless calls stopping folks like you from getting info.
-
@Paekakboyz I called my Dr (who I have struggled to get appointments 7 days out) at 9am about a non-CV19 issue, but one I wanted to speak to a Dr about, they said I was 38th in the queue for call back, got a call back about 11.30.

@voodoo said in Coronavirus - New Zealand:
@chimoaus Not many people stay at a hotel after grabbing groceries locally...
@canefan Even if you're maintaining distance from all other folk?
It's pretty frustrating how unclear the Gov guidance is on all this
I guess if you don't touch any common surfaces with uncovered hands, and stay at a distance from all staff and other guests, you might get away with it

@voodoo said in Coronavirus - New Zealand:
@canefan hmm, I don't want to get away with it though, def want to do the right thing. But I'd also like to get back to the old lady at some point, who is on her own through this (with some friends providing help and food etc)
So hard.
Its damn tough. My in laws live 5 minutes from our house but we can only see them online. Or at 2 meters away in a local park. No physical contact is tough on everyone
