@Kiwiwomble I think it was just down to numbers of people coming into be tested.
-
The New Zealand and Australian response and ramifications to early Covid19 were virtually identical and both countries benefited from being islands with no borders.
After an initial and stringent "shutting the windows", the elimination part was certain to follow.
Except, due to sheer arrogance and a total lack of self awareness, people in charge of quarantine, right up to the top too giddy on self importance and eager attention, completely fucked up the isolation theory and left windows open.
Now we're left to shake our heads and witness shameless excuses while we find out that our leaders couldn't give two fucks about our plights in comparison to their positions, (pensions).
So no, fuck off any plaudits to either country.
The initial solution you sold us was sound, your execution of it was infantile. The talk didn't match the actions.
wonder how Iceland got on?

True but I don't think that's too much of a problem for the moment. If the percent postive takes a big step up, then maybe.

Not sure quite what you're on about here.
Certainly in Australia I think the leaders have done a pretty good job. Yes there are clear systemic flaws in the Victorian health system, and the quarantine was poorly organised, but I don't think there's a shortage of empathy from Andrews.
I call his competency into question far more than his integrity or work ethic. He's clearly trying very hard. And most Governments abolished generous pension schemes years ago.

I go out every night and sleep all day

I can see whomever I choose
I can order my meals from a chicken restaurant
But nothing,
I said nothing can take away these blues'Cause nothing compares
Nothing compares 2 U -
This is good in that it's information in an interview that doesn't rely on advertising revenue.
Pretty objective in my opinion
Also John Anderson voices an experienced and informed opinion on most matters concerning the nation.
They talk a bit about covid data as it relates to lockdowns

A sauce within private healthcare in Qld indicated that the healthcare industry is taking the threat of increased rates of infection in Qld very seriously.
ie., private hospitals are concerned
there goes our christmas plans...

I'm back in Oz, watching the news of a Northern NSW woman who lost an unborn twin after being told she had to go to Sydney via Ballina (16hrs) despite her preference to go to the much closer Brisbane hospital.
Asked to comment, did I really just hear Palaszchook say "we have Queensland hospitals for our people and they have hospitals for theirs"?
Fuck me, what has happened to this country in the 8 months I've been away??!!!

You wanted to get back home so bad, now you might be tempted to come back here with us!!!

@voodoo Thats fucked.
On the Victorian front Dan's 'lets keep the state of emergency going for another 12 months' legislation is likely not to have the votes. The wording is dodgy as all hell, seems to allow it to continue even without covid cases.https://www.facebook.com/331311293717149/posts/1659587557556176/?vh=e&extid=PElR2MuW1wWVNQnc

"Victoria has recorded 73 new infections overnight, but 41 deaths"
wow, another big drop in cases but huge jump in deaths, 22 related to aged care, hopefully this is the peak corresponding with the peak cases a few weeks ago

I think so. The death spike will be people infected earlier that have taken a while to die

I just saw a quarantine bus turn up at the Liv Apartments I mentioned last week.
What was weird was that they blocked off the footpath, but there were no police today, just security guards and hotel staff. Seemed to be lots of families as I assume there are multi room apartments in this complex.
I crossed the road just to be sure.

Jim isn't fucking around.
Jim's Lawnmowing services are suing the VIC government. The Jim Group is worth a whopping $500m a year and this latest quarantine is decimating theirs and every other contractor business. We had just hired a man on the ground in Melbourne after seeing off the last lockdown. I would say he is probably up shits creek about now.

It appears most of the 41 are late reports of deaths over the last couple of weeks out of aged care.
Only 8 deaths in the previous 24 hour.

One plus side to NOT being able to go on holiday: making a serious dent in the last car loan we took out, over the last few months. On a 5-year term we'll be done around the time we do our tax this year. * The loan opened in April last year.
Tax returns came in.
Got my pay (mine is monthly which is good for bulky funds but bad for waiting)
School said "pay fees when you can" so I skipped out on that shit until next month.Car paid off. Eat all the dicks, personal loan interest.

I got a decent return this year as my previous employer paid me out two months and all my holiday pay on one pay round. I didn't spend it on anything useful.
