Black Lives Matter

A very balanced article from Coleman Hughes. Well worth a read.

@Frank But my point, Frank, is it's not a competition. Stating they have it better than the most marginalised people in the entire world (arguably) is completely meaningless.
My apologies @barbarian, but you completely missed the thing I was trying to highlight, obviously extremely poorly.
The American (as opposed to Caribbean) Black situation in America is obviously concerning for anyone with empathy.
One reason which I haven't seen mentioned here is the impact of the breakdown of families. Hard TBF if there's only a single parent. Interesting article on minority success in US picks up on this: https://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/07/opinion/07kristof.html?_r=1&th&emc=thHowever, my main point is that all over the world there are many, supposedly extremely caring and empathetic people OUTSIDE THE US, and often thousands of miles away, protesting about Black racism in US, when, as you yourself say, the Uighurs are 'the most marginalised people in the entire world (arguably).
Such omissions smack of phoniness. To me it highlights that a significant element of the outrage is political, and I don't doubt, given the backers of #BlackLivesMatter, that this is no accident. #AllLivesMatter

It's really valuable stuff because this current blm turmoil is not being backed up by reality. We're using the wrong instance to promote the right message: black lives need further attention.
From the article:
"At least four careful studies have done this—one by Harvard economist Roland Fryer, one by a group of public-health researchers, one by economist Sendhil Mullainathan, and one by David Johnson, et al. None of these studies has found a racial bias in deadly shootings. Of course, that hardly settles the issue for all time; as always, more research is needed. But given the studies already done, it seems unlikely that future work will uncover anything close to the amount of racial bias that BLM protesters in America and around the world believe exists."
"Recent history tells a different story. In 2018, the NYPD killed five people, down from 93 people in 1971. Since 2001, the national incarceration rate for black men ages 18-29 has gone down by more than half. Put simply, we know progress through normal democratic means is possible because we have already done it." LA had a 30 year low for police shootings in 2019.
America has actually made real progress with the issue of black criminality, ( something I got wrong) but a lot of this will be undone, mostly due to a false narrative being delivered to the populace far too bluntly.
I often analagise with another movement that communicated a false message, also from some damning individual instances and examples : ABC.
You all must remember it.
It was followed by ABP.
Remember now?
No?
It was a common media narrative propelled internationally by people who had no understanding of the issue and just parroted sound bites from anecdotes and correlations.
Still don't remember?
All Blacks Cheat. ABC 😁
It was fuelled by yellow card statistics and damning video coverage of Richard Loe on Paul Carozzas nose, Ritchie pilfering from the side and an unlikely win ratio that seemed highly suspicious to all those that never watched rugby. (everyone's got an AB Floyd moment to recall at a moment's notice.😉)
"Something's amiss here!" was the cry
It was followed by All Blacks Poaching untill rudimentary data and analysis exposed that NZ was no worse than others and better than many.
How difficult was it telling hooray Henry that the ABs were being misrepresented? Did he care for truth? Did he fuck.
America should defend the reality of it's accusations likewise. A false narrative versus an inconvenient truth it looks like to me. (Except this one's got devastating looting and rioting.)
So it is with police brutality and racism.
For sure there's a problem with police brutality but the shit policepeople are actually too busy being fuckwits to select for race.
They're taking on all comers with no prejudice, the data suggests.

@Rembrandt
Black Lives Matter really took off just prior to Hillary and Bernie's primaries fights. They were given huge media attention. Coincidentally, I am sure, this might have had something to do with mobilizing Hillary's major advantage over Bernie, the black vote.Once the primaries was over, this happened on July 7
Micah Xavier Johnson ambushed and fired upon a group of police officers in Dallas, Texas, killing five officers and injuring nine others. Two civilians were also wounded. He stated that he wanted to kill white people, especially white police officers. The shooting happened at the end of a protest against the police killings of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, which had occurred in the preceding days."Trump started with his Blue Lives Matter mantra and ole' Hillary obviously did some polling, and like that 'poof' we heard jack shit about BLM for the rest of the election.
BLM are used as a political tool by the Democrats, just as the Republicans no doubt use other groups.
The dilemma Dems is corralling their obvious passion while not letting the whole thing spin out of control and they lose public sympathy.

Could it be there is a degree of dirty politics at work behind the machinations of these protesting groups?
Were the Ferguson riots election year too?
Self quote!
LA Riots were an election year too when ol Bill got elected. Probably just a coincidence...though resentment is a pretty powerful emotion to sell to folk if folk were so inclined to use it.

Excellent article with facts to back up. Why do we not hear about all these white killings in the media? Doesn't fit the narrative obviously

Maybe this needs rephrasing
Suspect failed a sobriety test
In the process of being arrested by two police officers for being intoxicated whilst in charge of a vehicle, the suspect
resisted arrest
struggled with both police officers
escaped from their clutches
stole a taser from one of the officers
ran from the police officers
discharged the taser at one of the police officers
continued to flee
got shot by one of the police officers
died from the gunshot wounds despite being treated in hospitalTake race and sex out of this scenario and do we have the same reaction?

I'd like to say that I would feel similarly outraged if the dead man was white. Just like I felt outraged when Justine Damond was shot and killed. As that article said, they need to change the meaning of All Lives Matter from a perceived pushback from the right, to taking the statement at face value and that it is not trying to reduce the importance of Black Lives Matter

Great article. I did not recall reading about any of those people in the media. If there was coverage that I missed it clearly paled in comparison to Floyd and this latest guy
