Lots of love for A Smith on here tonight. This is a bit controversial, but I thought he was average. Sure, a class above TJ, but hardly impressive. Indecisive, sloppy, lots of telling but not much actual engagement.
Obviously our #1 HB and has had an amazing season, but tonight? Not so much.

Wil Jordan must be a starting AB.
One catch and try, an all black does not make. I only watched the second half, but that was it from him. As to Clark, his throw randomly in field cost the North the game. So neither test match ready

@Machpants Might be Rieko on the wing this year. Don't like any of our 12 options.
Seems trendy to play 13s at 12 this year

Some really great tries scored tonight. Shame that Ash Dixon saved his worst game for the North. Ioane was good (he and McKenzie worked well together), Will Jordan will probably be an AB sooner rather than later, Caleb Clarke also. Whitelock was the better captain.
Few current ABs that really went MIA though.

@antipodean clearly it's not a a matter of understanding the law. Your link to the laws governing a maul does not back up your case. Because the only things in this instance that you can claim to being in place for the maul to continue. Is point 13 & 13 of the laws. Defending players internationally leaving the maul. Neither happened. So like the ref, my interpretation is the maul is over the moment the attacking team broke off.
That wasn't the ref's interpretation - he penalised them for Laulala's actions.
I'm uninterested in explaining this to you any further.
