He's clearly on long-term manoeuvres.
The Tory party is seriously split at the top and when Sunak loses the next election, the membership will mainly blame him and his acolytes for a power-grab and losing an 80 seat majority - not Johnson.
Then, I suspect, the Tory blood-letting will seriously start.
The Tories might want him back in, but the rest of the country are not that stupid/brainwashed

Maybe. But it's the same stupid/brainwashed public who voted for Brexit who elected him...

But the same stupid/brainwashed public who weren’t allowed out of the house to get pissed and sing karaoke badly

When the electorate have had 7 years of Rishi Starmer and Kier Sunak "stability", businesses exit the country due to high taxes, unemployment rises, income taxes keep going up but people still can't see a doctor....anything's possible.

I know a few party members. They tell me the real split is between the MP's and the party. And the party is pretty fucked.
EDIT
Rishi Johnson could have thrived. Instead we have Keir Sunak.
Reports tonight that was happening but Johnson supporters saying Sunak stabbed Johnson in the back. Absolute mess.
-
Well, that was a big surprise...

Love or hate them both, interesting conversation

After Labour's Dawn Butler & David Lammy were corrected for claiming Bernie Grant was the first BAME MP in 1987, it turns out we've had plenty of Black & Asian ethnic minortity MP's for centuries - some of whom appear to have been involved in the slave trade.
Fascinating read.

Fascinating indeed
What happened between 1929 and 1987 I wonder?

Purely a guess, but the Labour Party winning seats from Liberals?
There was a lot of overt racism in the unions/working class up until the mid-'70's. Unions banned black people from becoming highly-paid train drivers for example.

Well, this is embarrassing. The bloke on the Privileges committee who severely criticised Johnson for Partygate and voted to effectively kick Johnson out of Parliament, appears to have attended an organised birthday party for his wife during lockdown...
-
Whilst I have no sympathy for Boris, you do kinda get his assertion of a witch hunt when it seems that they were all at it. Have a look at the first post on the Coronavirus UK thread as an example.
Bunch of fucking hypocrites.

Beneath the scuttlebutt, Paul Staines (Guido) is a pretty decent journalist so I have no doubt many more were partying - as were a lot of the population - so you'll find it hard to convince me there wasn't some kind of witch hunt almost from day 1. And I'm sure Starmer's Chief of Staff was scrupulously fair when investigating Partygate....
By the sound of it, Guido has copies of WhatsApp messages and pictures and it looks like revenge is being plotted. Popcorn time.

I feel dirty quoting from a Telegraph opinion piece link but this really does chime for me:
"The dominant wish in the Government, in Parliament, in the Civil Service, in the broader state apparatus, is to go back to normal – to how things once were, just with Britain outside the EU rather than in it. Don’t try to change anything much. Don’t modernise any processes. Don’t attempt to deal with our underlying economic problems.
Indeed, everyone seems much happier not governing and instead outsourcing decisions to supposedly neutral technocratic bodies: the Lords Appointments Commission, the PM’s various independent advisers, the Bank of England, the Office for Budget Responsibility, and many more. But.......if you think these people are doing bad jobs, unless you want to be called “careless of our institutions” or “Trumpian”, better keep your thoughts to yourself."
