I have just ordered my new phone and went to the website where I order my case from (senacases.com) as they emboss the case with my initials, which is a gimmick I happen to like.

Was going through to checkout and the delivery which used to be $10USD - $20USD is now $120USD or $160USD if I want it in 5 days!! We are experiencing this increase in our business too but I am a little shocked at that increase.

Alas, I am not going to pay that so need to find a more local supplier of phone cases (iPhone 13 pro max is what I've ordered)

Can anyone provide some recommendations? I would like it to be a nice leather case if possible but not completely necessary. Google wasn't my good mate in this case.

    Cheers

Yeah but I don't know the good-uns as nothing jumped out.

I am hoping @JC @Kirwan or some other chap or lady would be in the know. They tend to buy good tech so I am assuming they also buy good stuff to protect the kit.

Is the slowpoke delivery cost too high as well? Or do you not trust yourself to not hurl your phone across the room before it arrives?

Damn, that's nuts! Good luck at sourcing an NZ option.

USPS Surface, which was the only non-airmail, has paused to NZ due to delays at the border. Lots of other places too

@hooroo go to a local engraver, they should be able to help, we had them engrave TR Jnrs name and mobile number onto his laptop he had to take to school.

You could also give Davy Engravers in Hamilton a call. I know someone who got them to engrave a frigging ceramic pot which they did no problem at all without cracking it, which I was sure they would. They reckon they can engrave pretty much everything and I believe them. You could just buy a standard case and get them to so the work. I recall it was cheap as chips too, 30 shekels or something like that.

I have overstated the importance of the embossed initials.

It’s actually the leather case that’s more important to me

Fortunately @bayimports has kicked a goal for me. Cases look good and come embossed

I do wonder about the huge increases we are seeing for delivery. Thanks to the younger Catos I have Amazon prime which gives free delivery, but there are increasing numbers of items where this does not apply. Is it simply a method of further moneterising the service?

Can't say I've seen this at all. Even more and more stuff on ebay offers free delivery these days.

Yeah, our local Tesco's has a huge recruitment drive for delivery drivers. You go in and there's a massive setup to entice people. And every single amazon van you see has a large driver vacancies sign up.

People have just realised in this pandemic that home delivery is the way forwards. Fuck the high street!

It's the shipping companies. They're in complete control atm, and can charge what they want. Apparently Maersk has made the same (profitwise, not turnover) in the past year as they did in the 20 years prior, or some unearthly stat like that.

Shipping from the US via NZ post has inflated to ridiculous levels now. I used to use them a lot but barely do now whereas shipping via ebay and Ali express is still cheap. There is a lot of variation between each merchant

Fair. I can't see my need for an engraved leather phone case ever increasing beyond nought.
