@donsteppa lol, making one of our very best players ever look like a park cricket #8

Interestingly, if I've got the right match for that footage (second test Basin Reserve after losing in Christchurch) it looks like Crowe fell to McDermott in both innings (98 & 3) https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/australia-tour-of-new-zealand-1992-93-61409/new-zealand-vs-australia-2nd-test-63602/full-scorecard

Though that has been the joy/misery of the Australian attack so often, pressure at both ends eventually tells. Especially that later era of 'see off McGrath and Gillespie, now see off Lee and Warne, in time for McGrath and Gillespie...'

    Murali’s action was cleared wasn’t it ?

I also never realised he was a Rugby player too.

I had a Sri Lankan mate as a kid who said he found the move to NZ easier than he thought as cricket and rugby were both the big sports for kids in each country and he played both.

I'm not sure if rugby is still popular in Sri Lanka but he probably knew the name of more ABs at the time (the 80s) than I did.

Well yeah cos Murali played for Team Rugby in the Black Clash so he must have been an All Black without me realising it.

Oh, I took your post at face value didn't realise you were taking the piss.

Have tried and failed so far to find their head to head stats. That first ball isn't a million miles from the Gatting one...

I remember reading something to the effect that Crowe forced himself to play Warne as a straight bowler, and then played for the turn late. There's a lot of mutual admiration quotes between the two of them.

I can recall reading an article around the time MC passed away in which he talked about specifically measuring the turn on Warne's deliveries and determining the exact length he needed to use his forward defence. I'm obviously mangling the specifics, but it was fascinating to see how much thought and even science went into it.

@donsteppa I remember reading an article in one of the UK papers ahead of that first Ashes series. In it Crowe warned England that Warne was something special and to be feared.

The general tone of the article was very condescending, implying NZ might have struggled but facing England would be an entirely different proposition

    BOOMFAH!

@nta C'mon be fair it was missing both the leg and off stumps 2/3 ain't bad.

Crowe was a bloody good player of spin. The fact that Warne had him tied up in knots, so early in his (Warnes) career, speaks volumes. Crowe averaged 25 in matches against Warne. The fact that Warne still rated him the best Kiwi batsman he bowled to .....

Lot what the fuck? Trying to play reverse mental games against a bogan who doesn't give a fuck what you think. Yeah, that'll work.
