For anyone that saw them, was there anything about Mitchell's three overs that would have meant a fourth over was a bad idea? I feel asleep at one wicket down, so missed much of the bowling, but in the scheme of things his economy rate doesn't look massively worse than anyone else...
didn't see the overs, but I can suggest his back was probably sore from carrying the dead weight of the NZ top batting order
Can't be that bad, the top order are lightweights😀

I wonder what influence Baz with Stokes at the helm is already having, or are we just way below par?
I say that because we've had England on the ropes a few times this series, in fact we've had them basically KO'd we were so far ahead of the game, but they've found a way to fight back and we haven't reacted to it.
55/6 should be pretty much game set and match.
Just feel like the England we knew when we last played them would have rolled over.

You mean like last year ? Me too. Cricket is a funny game.
It’s irritating when someone who was previously a pretty bog standard test batsman like Bairstow plays the house down…..
But then again perhaps that is what Mitchell is doing for us too.

For me this has Baz finger prints all over this, you're right at 55/6 we should have this, but then they accelerate at great pace with nothing to lose, sounds remarkably like a play out of the Bay manual and turn a would be defeat into something completely different

He was one of the top batsmen in the world in 2016 - scoring over 1400 runs and almost averaging 60. So we know he can bat. There were a few lean years in between, but he’s found a bit of form this year scoring centuries against Oz, Windies and now us.

So were many of our guys who’ve now decided to shit the bed.
Christ it would be nice to wake up to someone other than Mitchell and Blundell at the crease. The top order thinks it’s the mid 90’s again.

Latham got a decent score for a change. But the top order have been an abject failure on the tour. We will always have the WTC win, but the golden era seems to have come and gone

Indeed.
In terms of the top order we have an all timer in KW ( who hasn’t fired )……but some of the other players we’ve lauded have come down to earth at a great rate of knots.
I don’t think Latham and Nicholls are as good as I may have thought in the past. Worryingly Conway is possibly heading this way too.
Perhaps Young is just an average run of the mill test cricketer.
If Mitchell and Blundell hadn’t taken up the slack we’d be even more royally fucked.

I think that passed with the loss to the Bangles.
What's really annoying is the first two tests we were in a position to win and exert dominance, and we just folded. Kane's struggling, feels like Peak Kane is over - and his captaincy is steady at best. Ugh.
Like the Australia tour, injuries haven't helped, but we shouldn't have lost the second test no matter what.

Blundell and Mitch Jnr keeping their heads with Root and Leach getting a bit of bite from the surface.

We are so frustratingly shit. We're a bowler short but still lose 5/52 as soon as the Mitchell/Blundell partnership is broken, with again not many runs from the top order. Now England making short work of another 300 chase because Bracewell gets clattered everywhere (after giving his wicket away in our innings), leaving too much for the ageing Southee/Boult/Wagner to cover.
We have an excellent specialist spinner who's taken a 10-for when conditions are good. Well, conditions are very good, seeing as England's fairly ordinary spinner just took a 5-fer in both innings. Meanwhile Patel is sitting in the stands having only bowled 2 overs at Lord's.
Every second ball seems to be going to the boundary when we bowl. Just too easy for an English batting lineup that was under real pressure before this series.

He must read the fern. Pretty sure loads of people were having a go at him during the Ashes series.
Bracewell makes me long for Mitch Santner
