Tom Walsh: World Champ for chucking a cannon ball inside.

Well done that man!

Yay

And appatently some chick from NZ does ok at the same stuff (when doped up Ukranians are dealt with .. ).

And supposedly some newcomer is ok at using a stick to lever herself over stuff.

Add in the odd porn addict and do our athletes have a shot at a medal or two come Rio?

Utterly dominated. 5/6 throws over 21m, silver was in the high 20m. Legend

I saw something elsewhere saying a few of the top guys weren't there due to prep for Rio, that said, you still need to throw the distance.

Yeah that's correct, a few top guys were missing, but 21.78m is a distance that would win most Olympics / World Champs.

Also, it's generally slightly harder to throw far indoors for the elite men as the sector is narrower and the throwing circle is polished wood rather than concrete, so slicker. And most shot throwers do more competitions outdoor than indoor; when Tom Walsh won the world indoor bronze in 2014 it was amazingly his first indoor competition ever!

Val finished 3rd. She led in the earlier rounds and was 2nd before the last throw before the Hungarian did a PB to leap into 1st. Then Carter threw a huge distance to go back into 1st.

I think Adams will be reasonably happy with her effort after returning from injury. Carter was very hit and miss with her throws. Plenty of motivation to improve before Rio.

Val was way off her best. If she can get back to her best then she has every chance for gold.

What happened to that other shot putter who was supposed to be the next big thing? Can't think of his name. I recall reading about an injury a while back. Hope it didn't fuck his career.

9th. Remember he's still adapting to throwing the senior shot.

I don't know feck all about the other guys but the gold medal at the last olympics was 21.89.. so not far off that. Bloke that won that was 30 then.

not sure what the optimum age for biffing rocks is but Walsh is only 24 and Gill 21.. so looking good for us for a few years.

any world champs victory should be celebrated accordingly!

actually wasn't it the dude that who won the shotput or medaled that went on a massive bender.. struggling to remember the story. German guy?

Need to find the clip of the Willis race. The commentator says something like " a lot of credit must go to Nick Willis for bringing that to an exciting climax"
It induced a fit of the giggles on CGW.

The winning distance announces Walsh as a medal contender much more than just winning the gold. If he can throw that or a little bit more in Rio, he'll be in the mix for a medal. Great to see he still works on a building site when he gets the time - maybe that actually helps him with the event rather than just gym work?

Valerie - she'll know herself if she is heading back to her former form - if she is, she'll have enough time to get there by Rio.

Willis - too much to expect him to come first
