I remember seeing the TV news on his £1m signing way back on my first visit. Was the first thing I say on UK TV I think.

    I feel old...

Sinead O'Connor. 56. No cause given, but a link to Samaritans at the bottom of this article.

Over the years, it was not difficult to see a deeply troubled person behind the success and talent. A sad life in many ways I feel.

She certainly shocked the world back in the day with her do which was more Peter Garrett than Madonna or Belinda Carlisle.

Definitely a pretty messed up personality by the looks of things. RIP.

@booboo She lost her teenage son to suicide recently, very sad news. Looked like she was in a good place around 2020 before that.

I remember hearing that when Prince heard she was going to cover his song, his expectations were low to say the least. He was pleasantly surprised it must be said, in fact Sinead's version is the iconic one

Why Prince’s Estate Refused to Allow ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ To Be Used in New Sinéad O’Connor Documentary

Why Prince’s Estate Refused to Allow ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ To Be Used in New Sinéad O’Connor Documentary

Prince's half-sister and co-heir Sharon Nelson reveals why the estate refused the Sinead O'Connor documentary's request to use her version of "Nothing Compares 2 U."

It would appear the little man got a bit ranty, and his estate doubled down on the pettiness recently

@paremata I met him a few years ago along with his two sons Dilhan and Mahlik .

He was a real old-fashioned gentleman. Used to drink 18 cups of tea a day, starting with an English Breakfast when he woke and progressively getting weaker as the day wore on before ending with a peppermint to aid his sleep.

You are spot on about his good works.

Dilmah is the only plantation to retailer operation going. When he first started out, he told his staff (about 15 in number) that he would fund their children's education right through to university graduation. He also offered all staff full health cover. Even though Dilmah ended up employing thousands he continued to honour his original promise.

His obituaries have made for interesting reading .
I can’t quite imagine drinking 18 cups of tea with a 90 year old prostate though. Truly a man of steel .

Prince was a genius but some of his lesser songs were done better by others.

Manic Monday by the Bangles and I feel for you by Chaka Khan spring to mind.

He was fucken petty, weird and a bit of a cock though.

There was NOTHING of his on YouTube until after he died which is stupid from his point of view because it essentially stopped a legion of younger fans discovering his music.

Rumour had it he gave Manic Monday to the Bangles because he wanted to get with Susannah Hoffs. A reasonable wish if you ask me

Given this thread has now diverged into the hawt thread I feel comfortable in putting out, what shouldn't be but is, a controversial opinion here.

Sinead O'Connor was a glorified one hit wonder. It is of course sad when anybody dies, let alone takes their own life, but passing on does not suddenly make somebody to be far far more important and successful than she was. The things being written are way way over the top.

She covered a song, put her own take on it, and became probably the 750th person to cry when shooting a video.

Nothing Compares 2 U was a huge hit, no doubt. But since then, what? So lets not go nuts.
