If I am.going to read too much into this, it's that Cam starting means he has moved past Finlay.

    We can only hope

His selection on the bench vs Italy and then subsequent play off of the bench vs Italy sealed it - even for Foz.

For all the complaining about Roigard, I'd say the coaches have done a great job introducing him to test footy. They haven't rushed him, he's made every post a winner with game time increasing each test, and now has stacks of confidence going into the finals. TBH I thought the RWC was a year too soon for him to get established, but we now have a real weapon to bring off the bench that other teams have not had a good look at.

Other than that, who knows re: selections, the ABs will be more focused on what they are doing off the pitch right now, so each selection would have been based on each individual player and whether another hit out will do them good before the quarter.

I'm surprised that some posters expected (or wanted) the A team to run out this week. Was never going to happen.

I'm genuinely surprised the messiah isn't starting though.

If he did the Uruguayans ( is that even a word ? ) would retire the moment the game was over

This is partially true, but I think you could only credit the coaches if they'd actually used a decent halfback in front of him (e.g Weber).

This is a bit like when the Blackcaps picked Will Young over Devon Conway, because he'd been in NZ longer, before relenting for the WTC Final, and lone behold Conway was way better.

Pick your best players, end of.

Finlay Christie to have a stormer, scoring two tries to earn himself a spot on the bench for the quarters.

@pakman Irish are vulnerable at TH because they have to play Furlong deep into game and by 55 he’ll be pretty knackered.

Haha, one of the funniest ones I’ve read for a while. Furlong could easily go 80.

So you not want to heed the lessons from 2007, 2019? Because by the QF the A side would have played once in 7 weeks.

With no midfield cover on the bench, will Jordie and ALB play 80 minutes, or will they take ALB off and move Fainga'anuku to 13, when Clarke comes on?

Also wondering what will happen when BB comes on. Will Richie or Dmac be subbed; if Richie, I assume Dmac will move to 10?

It will also be interesting who goes off when Blackadder comes on. I assume Cane, because he hardly plays 80 minutes anymore?

I reckon Cane plays 80. Hasn’t played a huge amount.

Jordie also has missed time so needs the run. Clarke will probably replace Will Jordan. Fainga’anuku will play 80.

    DMac will play 80.

2015 the top team pretty much played 3 of 4 pool games. That's what we should be doing, with tweaks but not wholesale changes liked this.

Yeah wasn't Hansen praised for this. They didn't taper until the final week or something. I would say this ended up being a rather successful strategy!
