Delaying elections doesn't require a law change unless it is past 21 November - the delay in dissolving Parliament is in case more legislation is required for Covid.
So first Winnie joins with James Shaw to berate Judith for suggesting delaying the election. Now he comes out agreeing that delay is the right thing. Would he make his mind up or is he losing it?

Yes.

Announcement at 10am if the election is delayed
There's a good case for pushing it back a bit... Labour have some incentives to not move it. Although if they are seen as overtly self interested there could be a backlash
My money is on it moving to November.

@canefan My favourite was when he said if Labour didn't delay the election he would bring down the government. Which of course would trigger an early election.
Only if someone else didn't have confidence of the House - if Winston backed National instead, we'd have PM Judith Collins rather than early election.
-
Sound decision I think. Reality is that Auckland probably down to L2 in another week or so, and can campaign after that. Lets Parliament hold Government to account (such as it is).
I can't stand him, and Peters is an untrustworthy muppet, but by god he's a master at this game. Arguably Ardern didn't want to delay (timing of announcement prevents rural MP travelling easily for Tuesday parliament), but he forced her hand with the open letter. When he's on, he is a master manipulator of people.
ah well, only 9 more days of lockdown in Auckland I hope

Waka jumping on a grand scale.
I actually won't vote as it stands because I don't want to vote for him. The major parties actually need to say that they will not work with him. It has happened before. They do that and he is gone, finally.
-
@Snowy Collins has said National will not work with NZF. It would be interesting to see if she held that line if, post election, National was able to form a govt with Winnie's support. I'm sure that "in the interests of NZ and to prevent the widespread damage to the economy a Labour led coalition would generate" she would "reluctantly" do a deal with the devil.
I think it's moot anyway. Jones is a distant 3rd and NZF is at around 2% in successive polls.
-
@dogmeat I am happy to say that I agree re NZ first not being even close.
Didn't actually know that Collins had said that, although I know Nats have in the past. Not that much clearer unless they declare their loyalties though. Which probably means nothing anyway as they are politicians hungry to govern. Which leaves me where I started.

Winston always says the phone will ring no matter what they say beforehand.
Yeah. That's why I said I am back where I started at not being able to vote as I don't know what I am getting. I do hope that he will be gone but he has pulled rabbits out of hats before. We know where the greens and ACT lie so no big deal there.

Imagine the gains the Greens could have made if they did a C&S with National in2017. Like, literally, the sky would be the limit - massive DOC funding, zero carbon act, targets that were achieved for transition to electric vehicles, insulation upgrades - quite seriously, the wins would ahve been absolutely huge.
And, you could always squeeze Labour and NZF for the same or better. The Greens have been poorly treated by both Labour governments under MMP, and no one is surprised.

Their socialist ideology holds them back. Labour can make them eat shit because they know they have no one else to go with. This is why we need a centrist green party. Just like many other countries in the world, they could hold the balance of power instead of a cockroach like Peters

@canefan Hey - you might not like them, but at least roaches serve a purpose.
Hey mate, I thought he had his best term this time. Was an effective voice of reason against the Greens and Labour. And that's saying something
