@Baron-Silas-Greenback the whole flaunting wealth thing is interesting. A guy I know who worked in banking for 20 years said a lot of the people that "looked" rich (flash cars, clothes etc) were absolutely swimming in debt. Makes me a little suspicious of people that appear to go out of their way to look wealthy.
The idea of flaunting wealth is probably a fairly modern thing as well. In more lawless times gone by I'd say showing off how rich you are would end up in your death/robbery. With all the security around money and a society influenced by celebrity culture it's quite normal to show off now.

@mariner4life yeah the wood look ones, very nice but expensive . To be honest I can't get my head around putting down a tile that looks like wood instead of just putting down wood .

@Baron-Silas-Greenback Getting rid of your mortgage (and not paying rent) is a fantastic thing. Suddenly everything you earn is disposable income, saving becomes a piece of piss and interest and dividends contribute to the happy story. #Likeababyboomer
I think a key measure of being well off is if your boss comes in tomorrow and says, "we're going to have to let you go". When it's causing you no financial drama (or when you're even thinking "fucking great!") you've got it made.

@jegga maintenance
I'm starting to think these buggers don't want to build our house. Earthworks finished last Wednesday since then fuck all. Started boxing for the slab, and had some shit delivered. And there is no one there now. Considering thats 7 fine working days, it's very slow.
By comparison, the guy next door who started the same time is flying along with a cast of thousands there every day. And he has a more complicated build!
Just venting really

Weather is mint for fishing today...
I think the foreman reads the fern because he just rang me. Hold up ix busy subbies with too many jobs on the go.

Perspective is a funny thing. With Peaky Blinders winning on Derby day and being sold the following week, some mates just assume that we are now loaded. This is faaaaar from true. People see the end result (Selling Price) and never think of how much it costs to get there and the ongoing cost of owning a chunk of land.
I want some flash harry stuff but only if we are minted as! Always wanted a Bently Continental GT as I got to drive one and fell in love with them. A lot needs to happen before I could ever think about that. Other than that, I am happy that my crappy car just keeps on going (touches wood). I will never spend hard earned money on a car.
Id' rather spend it on a few holidays etc.

House update ... we have been forced to back down. Spoke to a few legal experts and they all said the same thing. You'll go down the path and at the end you will probably win, but your build will be forced into delays due to injunctions & your legal costs could skyrocket.
So thats 6 months work fucked then. And about 6000 GBP.
On the plus side, we can still do about 70% of the work and subsequently about 65% the cost ... hence, more in the sky rocket for toys ...

How many times have I heard that excuse. Straight from page one of the contractor's handbook

@canefan when we were building, they were well ahead of schedule, and then the next few times we went out to see what was going on, nothing...after a week of absolutely nothing, I call up the Builder, apparently being ahead of schedule was the problem, as the painter/decorator was away on holiday and was due back for another 3 days, which was when he was scheduled to start...at least they were honest.

@taniwharugby Nothing worse than being ignored or getting spun some BS excuse. Honesty is always best
