@taniwharugby yep, we have a confirmed casualty, our economy.
-
I wonder what this means for the likes of kiwifruit in the early stages of picking and packing. Essential workers?
If there is any bright side, in four weeks time the Chinese economy will be even further back online in terms of trading partners. I understand that South Korea hasn't gone offline, and other economies in Asia who've been hit first might be further through it too.
I feel like I'm clutching at straws a bit, but there has to be some sliver to look forward to economically.
-
@voodoo They've said that stocks are fine, because the supplies keep coming in; they just can't keep up with re-filling the shelves, because of the panic buying. So I'm hopeful they'll be able to make the deliveries. We've a delivery scheduled for Saturday.
-
Well, fark.
Wasn't too surprised with the rating of 3, that seemed inevitable either today or tomorrow. But 4 in 48 hours? Fuck me did shit just get real.
Crazy times, it really is. I'm incredibly fortunate that I 1) work in an essential service and 2) can work from home. My wife is at home with baby anyway so schools closing doesn't impact us.
But man do I feel for the many, many thousands of NZers who will be badly impacted by this. It's going to be really difficult for a lot of people to stay positive and I do worry that @Baron-Silas-Greenback's worst predictions will become a reality.
I'm lost for words really. Don't think this has really sunk in yet.
-
So New Zealanders have 48 hours to panic buy and spread the virus? Good time to go riding and hunting I suppose.
-
@antipodean Exactly
-
@antipodean one of my colleagues was meant to be going hunting down south somewhere on the weekend (chopper in) but thats been canned, Choppers not operating.

Lines outside the liquor store in West Auckland
and Matamata...
My hand is up. As soon as I heard Level 4, I went out and purchased up a storm while everyone was at supermarket. I know the owner and he reckons that Booze stores may still be able to operate.
He helped me load up the car, all the same.

I've recently been asked if it is OK for golf during the week?
Wouldn't that be ok, if
- you only golfed with your family members you were isolated with
- the golf course was close enough to your house to not really count as travel
- you didn't get within 2m of anyone else out there
not trolling - but surely that satisfies self isolation? We have a golf course a short walk from our home...

I don't see why not. Don't hit the cafe, locker room or the pro shop though

Give the clubs a wipe down at the end
Time for a Fern golf tournament I reckon, we can all wear ski masks and a glove on each hand

As president of the Club, I have closed it to groups of more than 1 person. I don't want others seeing groups out there and think it is OK

If selling booze in this time of crisis doesn't meet the definition of an essential service - then WTF does!?
Business as usual for us. We are either going to get crazy busy or ….. not.
We have a contractual obligation to supply hospitals but I have a big question over whether they will be using us
