He did look all at sea though almost from Day 1. Job was clearly much harder than he expected it to be. Corporate world clearly wasn't preparation for the death stare politicking no matter what Winnie says
I have a half baked theory that 2020 has taken a lot more of out of some people than they realise, and when they go to step up a few gears all of a sudden they can't quite do it the way that they once would have. Todd isn't the only one I've seen along those (very broad) lines.

@Donsteppa shit. I really hope he is ok - no job is worth that level of personal sacrifice. Never a better moment to focus on the current 'be kind' mantra. Surely he'll be gone entirely from politics? if not now very soon I'd imagine. Then again he might see staying on and contributing as a genuine way forward...

@canefan thing is, who wants to step into the role right now, if you have long term ambitions, taking over after they lose the election would be the best bet, taking it up now, looking down the barrell at falling short come election time, chances are someone else will see that time as thier shot too.
Simon would surely not be keen to step back in, knowing it was only short term.

@Donsteppa dude, this 1000%.
In a semi-related segue we moved to Outlook from Google mail at work last week. I flipped the table as it was one more bit of (unwelcome) change in a year that has been a shambles. Didn't matter if it was good or bad change, I was just utterly done on change.
No matter how resilient we are feeling this year has done a number on us. Far more of us running around on a hair trigger than we might expect or admit.

Sounds cruel but I’d love to see how Crusher would go as leader.
Either way the millions that will be spent on this years election does seem like a waste of money now.
She came across very well in her AM show slot a wee while ago. She has softened her image a bit and still has a bit of wit. She has been asking the uncomfortable questions in parliament more during this term than anyone. They could do worse right now

@canefan Well no one is going to out-kind Jacinda, so why not.
I do wonder though if her past reputation of being a bit of a bully (which she has worked hard on remedying) would backfire at the moment. Being seen as 'bullying' Jacinda would not go well but spending time looking strong as opposition leader would.
I think they will throw another lamb to the slaughter but who knows. It sounds like there are al sorts of factions going on. -

National is probably at the saving the furniture stage, Collins might do that to a degree.
In her current form she is far more polished than anyone else they can offer up. Her crusher days are a long time ago

Would Paula Benefit have left still if Muller quit earlier.
She can still 'un-resign' although I think she has burned some bridges already.
I see what you did there.

I just think it is too close to the election for anyone with long term ambitions to step up, if they are gonna give Labour a good run, they need someone with charisma to instantly attract apathetic voters (which Cindy managed)
I dont think there is anyone strong enough right now to steady things enough (the public will think National is a joke too) IMO whoever steps in, does so through to election adn someone else comes in post election to build toward the next one.
