@dogmeat Yep, I think this is yet another indicator of the eventual new strategy:

RNZ LiveWhen we get another case, we should be able to manage it within an alert level 2 or 1 setting," Bloomfield said.
So why on earth can't we go into L2 now?

This is such BS. Cindy says the extra days will give people time to prepare. Prepare for what??!!?? We have been to this show before, businesses know exactly how they are to operate in L2. New cases are low, there is no good reason why we should not be able to head back to work on Thursday morning as originally proposed

This is from the official statement:
Ultimately, our goal needs to be managing this cluster from Level Two as soon as we feel confident we can do that. That means feeling confident we have the perimeter of the cluster well understood and defined, and are not seeing too many cases cropping up that we haven’t found through contact tracing. Based on the advice of the Director General, we believe that confidence can be built over the course of this week.
That is why, the Director General has recommended to Cabinet, and Cabinet has agreed to apply a short extension of Level Three restrictions in Auckland until 11.59pm this Sunday 30 August.
You may recall we were due to lift restrictions on Wednesday. These extra 4 days are believed necessary to allow us to move down a level in Auckland, and stay down. We want both confidence, and certainty for everyone.

What does that even mean? Confidence and certainty? If they hadn't fucked up in the first place we'd all be more confident. My confidence is progressively eroding that this lot could organise a piss up in a brewery and not forget to bring the glasses

Such a waffly pile of shit statement.
I'd also like them to elaborate on why next time will be different, or if it won't be, then to be honest and tell us to get used to going up and down levels every time we get a case in the community.

Level 3 extended to Sunday 11:59pm, masks mandatory on public transport at level 2 and above. Hospo etc can open from Monday, but gatherings still limited to 10 except for funerals which are 50.
So level 2.5 then really? No team sports still....

She can give us no real world reason why 4 more days is so important. To be sure the latest cluster is contained? I call bullshit on that

Hope they put more ink in the printer.

Because our nanny state Govt has decided we can't. And the obedient public just go along with it. and until the latter changes the Govt will continue to treat us like children

FINALLY, for once I can agree with you on something!!

ffs massive pain in the arse if you're trying to sell your house and you were hoping to have some final open homes this weekend ahead of auction next week.. farking twats. what the hell is 4 days going to do. If you were around auckland at the weekend you'd know full well every fucker just ignored whatever we were supposed to be doing.
-
@WillieTheWaiter is the same as coming out of L4 which fell a day before ANZAC Day which was a Friday IIRC, Govt likes to push things to the start of a working week, not these mid-week changes.
-
There are solutions. Like
NZers to vote for a party that respects our right and freedoms (hopefully there is one) in the coming election. For example the right of a healthy law abiding citizen to go about their business without a Govt using any excuse to remove them. But if we collectively applaud as they are all removed. The future will get worse.

Have you guys considered the possibility that the fact that you don't understand why the MoH has advised an extension of 4 days, may have more to do with poor reporting by the media and not so much with there not being good reasons? Or with the fact that only the main point of the MoH advice is communicated but not the details underlying it?
If they need a few more days of contact tracing to get a reasonable level of certainty that they've found all the contacts related to this cluster that they need to find and that no infections related to this cluster will pop up at unexpected places, then there's likely an operational need for that. What's so hard to understand about that?
