@Nepia I had a chat to a guy last year who was backpacking through Chile when Pinochet took over, him and his mate were herded into a soccer stadium and given some beatings to see if they were spies. He said they were pretty bewildered about the whole thing and the other Chileans there kept telling him theyd be safe because they were gringos and they were eventually released. Believe it or not his wife ended up becoming NZ ambassador to Chile and they went back after Pinochet was gone.
