Although I must admit I did chuckle.

Like all Communist dictators, he inflicted misery on his countrymen. Good riddance to the arsehole.

Yeah, if only he was one of those rightie dictators like Pinochet there'd be no misery. 😉

@Nepia I had a chat to a guy last year who was backpacking through Chile when Pinochet took over, him and his mate were herded into a soccer stadium and given some beatings to see if they were spies. He said they were pretty bewildered about the whole thing and the other Chileans there kept telling him theyd be safe because they were gringos and they were eventually released. Believe it or not his wife ended up becoming NZ ambassador to Chile and they went back after Pinochet was gone. He wrote an e book about it I haven't read yet , this article gives the gist of what happened at the stadium though http://www.independent.co.uk/news/the-pinochet-affair-i-saw-them-herded-to-their-death-i-heard-the-gunfire-as-they-died-1179543.html

    I will start with 2..
Stalin and Mao. Death count in the tens of millions........ your turn.

    @jegga

Your NZ Green MP Steffan Browning.

"I’m saddened by the death of Fidel Castro. He represented so significantly the battle against the worst of the forces of capitalist greed and the tyranny of oppression by the USA industrial military complex. Cuba has problems but its achievements and humanitarian reach have been significant too, especially considering the blockades and measures against it. I was disappointed by this Stuff announcement that has so much about those celebrating Fidel’s passing, when millions will be mourning."

These have come in after the Canadian presidents gaffe this morning.

"Mr. Stalin's greatest achievement was his eradication of obesity in the Ukraine through innovative agricultural reforms."

"Today we remember Adolf Hitler, whose vision for the autobahn changed the face of vehicular transportation forever."

"Let us remember Osama Bin Laden. He was a thief and a terrorist, but he had a marvelous singing voice."

That last one made me LOL for a bit

Its been interesting seeing the reaction to his death, Claire Curran called him a legend on twitter for example. A lot of leftards have that weird anti american thing going on that makes them overlook what the likes of Castro got up to because he "stood up" to the US.As you say there's zero chance of them giving up their prius and house in Wadestown to move over there and become part of the revolution.

@Hooroo Let us remember Jack the Ripper as a great benefactor who worked tirelessly to get female prostitutes off the streets

Osama Bin Laden was certainly a controversial figure, but his contribution to airport security is unparalleled

    And my winner so far
While a controversial figure, Pol Pot will be fondly remembered as the creator of Skull Jenga

@Catogrande there's been an online rumour circulating this week that Castro is the Canadian pms dad, apparently it's impossible but his parents were so obsessed with trying to appear "right on" it's hardly surprising that he attracts rumours like that.

His dad met his mum when she was a 22 year old and he was 50 odd and may or may not have boned a porkys era Kim Catrall , not a bad effort there on his part.
