@Bovidae wasted years , the trooper, run to the hills. Damn that sounds like an incredible gig you went to.

Dio was a talent. Up there with the best rock vocalists ever in my opinion.

Would be interesting to see a flowchart between Deep Purple/Black Sabbath/Rainbow and Whitesnake to see how much 'inbreeding' went on between those bands.

Hats off to Zep ( better than any of those mentioned overall ) once Bonzo died they called it a day and stayed the same from beginning to end.

Must be time for a Dio video. 😀

This has been transferred from video so the quality isn't great. Their signature song:

@Tim I listened to ELP on the day Lake died. They're dying in order this year as Keith Emerson died in March under more tragic circumstances. I hope Carl Palmer is in good health.

I know that Grohl and co really divide opinion here, but this little ditty come up whilst I was out for a gentle jog the other day - fantastic tune.

@MajorRage Agree. Very well structured tune, plenty of feels and a heap of punch.

The vocals on this crack me up. The Logg is going hard with the seduction.

One of their best for sure. I also quite dig 'New way home'

Have been hearing some really good things about this band Ghost for a while now. I put their most recent album on in the background while I was doing some tidying and by christ they are bloody catchy. Technically metal but more reminiscent of the old 70's/80's style old black sabbath, blue oyster cult, merciful fate so very easy listening compared to today's metal

They won a grammy for best metal performance last year ... oh and they also have a bit of a satanic cult schtik going on wearing demon masks/undead pope getup to hide their identities, it's almost a shame as I think that might put some folk off what is some very cool tunes..but then again its a hit with the younger generation

And doing some reading on these fellas, turns out Dave Grohl produced one of their EP's and has dressed up in their Ghoul outfits and played with them live

@Rembrandt I listened to some of the tracks from Meliora when it was first released as the band was hyped in a music forum I browse. As you say, very catchy tunes if you ignore the lyrics. 😀

You definitely hear some early Sabbath influences.

@Bovidae Some good tracks on the Infestissumam album too. It's a little more blatantly satanic so really gotta be more aware at work when I'm singing to myself..

I'm kind of looking forward to seeing Wolfmother live as I like a few of their songs/

@jegga I'm sure I saw Nine livez as an opening act back in the 1990s. Same for Push Push a few times.

Speaking of NZ rock bands, obviously Knightshade was the band for us Hamiltonians, but another from that era was Scarf - very good musicians.

A quick Google for Nine Livez.
