sorry, was the Pilsner I think...
-
funny you mention that Crucial, was having a yarn to the guy from Boundary Road at Beervana. He was pretty much making the point you did, which I guess is a fair call.

Boundary etc certainly are a nice middle ground when you want to have a few beers and still drink something nice. There was also another sub-brand of Independent Breweries I hadn't seen before - The
Resident. If you like their other stuff, keep an eye out for it.

I really like the hoppy flavour, but it was nice to get some variety at Beervana. Did mention to Luke of Epic that I did like the change he made with the Message in a Bottle. It was much more subtle than the usual in your face hoppy taste, -
James Squire "150 Lashes" Pale Ale for the win!
Stoke Bomber biscuit beer, a dark lager, great drop in the sunshine while cooking some steaks!
Any Suggestions for white/wheat beer? Just had a Flensburger Weizen and it was quite nice. Def enjoy Hoegaarden but haven't been sold on some NZ boutique wheat beers - too many flavours like Banana and liquorice being added!
Emersons Weissbier.
Three Boys Wheat
Wanaka Beerworks- Aoraki White -
Erdinger is a nice drop...

I also had a Monteiths Wheat beer (I think it was monteiths) and it was quite nice, wife bought me a 6 pack of some other wheat beer, that I havent started yet, and I had not heard of it so will put the name up if it is any good. -
there's always good old Schöfferhofer wheat beer. Can find that round usually. Got one from Thorndon New World the other day.

There are of course at least two types. Hefe being unfiltered, and kristall being the filtered type. Both are nice for different reasons.

I think you can also get Franziskaner wheat beer in NZ too. -
Ha ha 7 good leads there guys - cheers. Didn't know about the Hefe/Kristall difference either - how would describe the effect on flavour Allstar?
nice refreshing drop, light fruity taste, and only 4% too.

It was Monteiths Apricot Wheat beer I had, which was nice -
Bloody thread got me going on the Wheat Beers this weekend.

Although I mentioned it above from memory I hadn't had an Emerson's Weissbier for quite a while so that was the Friday night treat. Can confirm that it's a fine drop. Unfiltered but not too cloudy (so not too yeasty), has the right refreshing spice notes and has avoided being too fruity. A Hoegaarden that's a little clearer and less 'orange' flavour.

I picked up a pack of those 'Crafty Beggars' (Which is a bandwagon brand from Lion). I have nothing against the big breweries getting on board, just get a little peeved when they try and hide their involvement, why not just be upfront? If they can make something that tastes good at a price I can afford the all good.
I thought the Wheat Beer was refreshing but very light in flavour (I guess they have to cut costs somewhere). Certainly worth picking up to drink ice cold at an afternoon BBQ though as the alc content is not high. -
I liked that it was only 4%, which IMO was what helped the lighter flavour...

As to being a Lion Brand, as you say, they should really say it, as hiding will make the beer snobs even more enraged I personally thought it was a nice fresh drop, it may be some time before I pick up this 6 pack again (more through the fact I like to try something new when Isee it than anything to do with Lion being involved) -
Beer snobs crack me up. If you equate it to wine it would mean that only $100+ bottles should ever be made.

$10+ beers are a luxury and damn good value for money but you'd have to be loaded to drink only craft beer (or not actually drink that much). At least with the cheaper options out there you can still try something different and occasionally find an OK drop at a reasonable price. Not all of it is good, but the odd few of them are ok. They are often a step ahead of the dumbed down flavours in Macs and Monteiths and street ahead of your bog standard big brewery fare.

I'll leave the real craft jobs for the special treat thanks. -

Yeah, I love good craft beer, but it's just too expensive to drink every time.
I drink bigger all, but when I buy beer, I buy decent stuff to enjoy and may only have 2 in a sitting. I'd rarely get through a dozen in a fortnight (although I have had about a months worth in the last 24 hours)
