Defence has been awesome this year overall. On attack I want to see us do more with bodies in movement. That last try was great example of what we can do.
Wales did it well, I wonder if we aren't showing our hand to early for World Cup.
Cane amazing, also though ALB looked good in the little things. Overall every seemed to do there job out there.

When moody is back I’d be tempted to go with Hames rather than Wyatt on the bench.

Hopefully that was Crockett's last game in black. We call him 9 pt Crockett as he is always good for at least 3 penalties. He'll be 35 by the time the next international season rolls around. Thanks for your service and time to move on.

Thought McKenzie had a decent enough game today.

He made an great tackle on a Welsh front-rower just before Crocket did his "three scrum penalties" act. Doesn't lack ticker or skills and has a big future,,,but where?

@victor-meldrew Dare I say it, but Barnes had a bloody good game tonight.

If DMac makes a good fist of 1st5 for the Chiefs, then 10.

    Big if mind.

What a great game to watch, both teams played well and scored some great tries.

Sam Cane is a beast, but looked pretty banged up at the end of the game.

Was that Sam Cane's best defensive performance in an AB jersey? So many dominant tackles. He hits harder than Richie.

I'm watching on delay. I'm at the 23 minute mark. Nz have had 19% posesion (just flashed up on screen). Nz get a defensive penalty under their own posts. Barret taps to himself and then hoofs the possession back down the middle of the field.

I've just popped in to say; what the actual FUCK was that?!"

It was a free kick. So he had to tap. Would gave preferred he went for touch though

You don't have to tap a FK first.

Yeah I get that. Just commenting on the reason he didn't go direct to touch off a penalty. I thought the reason he tapped was to get closer to touch and give himself some momentum to get distance up the sideline. The resultant kick down the guts was an odd choice I thought.

That was gorgeous set-piece work. Barrett & DMac on his outside too, that was going to be a try from the moment we won the scrum...

Lovely pause and pass by Lima and incursion by TJP to launch Rieko. Turboboost did the rest. Glorious.

Was only a FK. Still no point not just kicking it directly.

You're probably right. It was only a FK offence. But Barnes had his arm straight.

Well I don't agree with your earlier post about Barnes. Thought he was good, even if he was very lenient in certain aspects (eg held up/maul v a tackle), he was very consistent.

One thing I'll give him was that he communicated exceptionally clearly, which takes away a lot of guesswork for the players. Seemed to me to be stricter on ruck laws with us than Wales, albeit, as mentioned, because he called out his thinking few of these lead to penalties against us.

I didn't like the option by Sam W to turn down the 3 in front of the posts. It reminded me of his naive captaincy for Crusaders v Lions. Although it did eventually worked for a 5 instead of a 3 after a shit load of effort.

Once that decision was made though I commend A Smith's subsequent quick taps.

But the original decision. Why take it from in front way out to touch, it is a low percentage play. By all means plug the corner if the penalty is given out in the team lines.

    Never in doubt.

Wales played a little better than I thought they would. We played about expected. Some really good stuff and some messy.

On Barnes, usually don’t mind his reffing, but today I thought his reffing of the breakdown was all over the show. I thought we were robbed of a number of penalties when we were on the ball and Wales never released. He finally gave Todd one, but I counted at least 4 others previous to that, that were similar but went unrewarded.

Thought Cane, Ioane and Todd all excellent.

Whitelock (S) and ALB very good. ALB seems to be building some excellent rapport with Ioane, but maybe could lose a few pounds. Nice cameo for Lima.

Our kick receipt was dire: a real weakness.

Pat T and Laulala were pretty anonymous and scrum improved noticeably when they left. Only noticed Squire after halftime. Ofa did add some impetus, but Wales controlled him well.

Naholo and SBW a mix of very good and bad. Dmac mainly good.

I'd say Crotty at 13 is excellent defensively and he keeps backline in shape. Offensively things were better with ALB.

Agree dominant tackling performance but I honestly think he has been doing it most of the season. Just a tackling machine.

I think moving forward I would start ALB, just seems to offer more on attack than Crotty, plus he does not get injured. Crotty is very good and does tough stuff but ALB (when he starts) makes us look more fluid.

Maybe that’s because while Crotty was still there we didn’t have any possession to be offensive with.

SBW seemed to play a better game with ALB there though. Much more direct, and in fact once he got over his early yips I thought he was v good today. He really put his body on the line a couple of times including one dive on a bobbling ball that was incredibly ballsy.

I like the back row combo of Cane-Todd-Squire. All three out in some punishing work on defence in the second half and as a unit they seemed very quick to ball carrier and breakdown. We need to find ways to have Cane and Todd on the field together. I’m amazed at how hard Cane was going at the end considering what he’d done in the previous 80mins.

The highlight for me was calling for another scrum when our senior lock was off the field and we’d just won a penalty from the previous 7 v 8 scrum, and scoring off it. That’s got to mess with the opposition’s heads. Old Aura must be on 250+ caps by now.
