It's rainy and windy as fuck in Welly. My car moved around on the motorway.

In other news people are venting on social media about how they can't believe it's windy and rainy in Welly of all places.

    Getting pretty shitty in Dunedin

I'm heading down there tomorrow. Hopefully the Taieri Plain isn't under water tomorrow morning...

Worse turbulence coming out of Auckland than landing in Wellington. Some folks clapped on landing, bloody rookies!!

Wellington did look like it'd been hammered though.

so looks like parts of NZ, particularly central NZ are in for another smashing, this time from ex-Cyclone Gita.

Waiting to see (in Wellies) if we are going to cop it at all. Seems it's tracking right through Cook Strait so I guess we'll get a bit of a touch up.

@paekakboyz Pretty safe bet but it might be even further South.

Ex tropical cyclones are hitting a long way further south. It used to be a top of the North thing and more east.

Was talking to a well known marine biologist the other night and he was saying that Ta$man sea temps are way up, which would explain my comment above.

@snowy yeah I know in the 2000's and early 2010's Northland would get hit almost every year, but Northland has been left largely unscathed the past few year (obviously pockets that have still suffered) while other parts of NZ are now getting smashed (touches wood...superstitious or not 😉 )

I went fishing in the harbor a fortnight ago (east coast) and water was 24.5 deg C, which is a little warmer than normal, but its the fact it's been these temps since late November that is the big thing.

Strangely I can't remember a Cyclone threatening Qld at all this season so far.

    That may be dodgy memory.

@booboo no nothing at all. nothing formed, not even a watch. It's fuuuucking hot up here though, so there is still a chance of a late one like last year.

Gita was a complete non entity which is disappointing. I love a good cyclone.

We got 200mm in 12 hours griday night. Certainly tested the new stormwater system. It failed in a couple of places.

Spent yesterday digging. Digging is shit.

Busy night here, fence blown over on one side. Gate on the other where the family rabbit is kept, so that resulted in a very dangerous rescue mission.
No power either at home or work ( where I currently am)
Going to be a great day.

in Auckland, a neighbour's tree snapped in half. Luckily missed the fence and anything else on the way down, but there was some wind last night.

Edit: Also 12 degrees colder this morning than yesterday
