@canefan I reckon a few of them work up here...one my wife goes to is always trying to get her to get cosmetic shit done, telling her she needed this and that, she ended up changing fortunately she has good teeth, hope the kids have hers rather than mine.
Some of the dentists they have for kids are too eagar to extract as well, which causes crowding issues as thier adult teeth come through (learnt with TR Jnr so Miss TR had a spacer)
I dont want to change dentists as I am embarassed by the state of my teeth!
Never settle mate, find someone who doesn't make you feel like you are being sold. For the sake of your remaining teeth you owe it to yourself to find someone responsible. I see lots of people from other dentists (many thru grabone etc too) that want a second opinion for proposed treatment plans. Every time I do an assessment and find they need little or no work done it fucking disgusts me. These days any dentist worth their salt is relatively non-interventionist, especially with kids

@catogrande TBF I was in the UK 14 years ago, and was lucky to have a good NHS dentist so was just commenting on my experience then, and obviously since in NZ.
I just know our system is broken, I know plenty of people who look after themselves and earn reasonable money but dental treatment (let alone the check up or maintenance side of things) is beyond so many, and often choose not to do something because of the cost, or take the cheaper option (extraction) because the solution is significant.
I emphasise to my kids how important keeping thier teeth healthy is, cost to remedy one, but they are a life long thing, we dont grow em back like sharks!
@canefan I did have a good dentist, they moved to another practice, I followed and seemed thier attitude toward my dental health did too.
From the outside you wouldnt know I have these issues with my teeth, I dont have gum issues, but they all have had work on them (bar 1) and I am pretty careful with what I eat, I havent had a K-Bar for probably decades

If it's someone wanting to continuously replace fillings without fresh decay beware. Some guys are out there that are too quick to cut into teeth or replace things IMHO

I worked for a dental practice for a few years, so pretty much saw everything. Kids with rotten teeth, accident victims, self-inflicted smashed face, infections, sensitive teeth, dentures at 30, mass extractions, wacky estimates, fucking terrible dental work done through Winz dentists etc. It really is hit and miss in terms of ability, technique, equipment, training, cost etc. And the mark ups on crowns/bridges, dentures etc is staggering.
But yeah, do floss daily. That is a habit I got into and now I don't think anything of it. Colgate is good. Reach is shit, frays like nothing else. And chuck out your hard or medium toothbrush.
