Took the wife to see A Star is Born with low expectations. Was blown away by Bradley Cooper, was incredible in this.
Nice slow, deliberate paced directing too. Some great shots.
He managed make Gaga both plain and beautiful at the same time. Great grownup movie, worth seeing.
Fav movie of 2018.

Yeah, it's up there. It's was the wife's choice after a long list of Marvel movies.

@mokey I can barely remember something vaguely psychedelic featuring a VW maybe?
it is the earliest I have ever abandoned a movie and I'm not one that feels my masculinity is threatened by a musical.
Mind you after the last week and given I have never raped or murdered a woman....

if you like Jack Black, School of Rock...

If you consider Rock Of Ages to be a musical, I'll admit to watching that.
More for the music than the acting though...
It was pretty funny in places and the lead chick was smoking
Put her up on the hawt thread

Creed 2: It was ok, the Drago son was pretty good in and they tried to make Ivan Drago a more realistic character this time round.
Mild spoiler so look away: One problem I have with these new films is they seem insular, like there's no big boxing world without them. In the originals they had nifty montages showing the fights (as well as the training) on their way to the big match ups which is all that's needed really. In this current one we hear about 6 fights off screen in the opening and that's it really.

OPeration Finale - based on the true story of the Mossad hunt for Nazi SS Officer Adolf Eichmann in Buenos Aries in 1960.
Ben Kingsley stars as Eichmann...bit of a slow burner, never really got going, but meandered along at a decent enough pace to keep me watching for 120 mins...
3.5 Nazi sympathisers out of 5 narrowest of narrow escapes.

Peppermint - Kinda a cross between The Punisher & John Wick, with Jennnifer Garner as the ass kicker.
TBH I thought she did well too, looks tidy to boot! As with these types, need to ignore some of the unbelievable stuff and just enjoy the violence
3.5 corrupt law makers out of 5 dead gang bangers

12 Strong
US Special Forces help friendly-ish Afghans beat unfriendly Afghans.
Not too bad, some cool battle effects, it's not totally over the top with the gung-ho stuff, and at least it's pretty up front that these dudes' main job was to call in air strikes.
The talky stuff can get a little slow, and the political side of it is very, very simplistic. But if that's what you are watching this movie for, then you have missed the point.
Movie does contain the best modern cavalry charge since Lawrence of Arabia
3.5 50-cals on the back of a hilux out of 5 bombs from the upper stratosphere

@mariner4life I didn't mind it. your rating isn't overly generous.
BTW, calling in fire support is one of the best jobs in the military.

It lost me a couple of times in the talky bits, otherwise it would have been a hard 4.
It's no Black Hawk Down, but it's still pretty good.

They Shall Not Grow Old: Finally found a cinema showing this and it was brilliant. The 'effects' they did on the film was top class and the audio from the interviews was tidied up so well it was like they were recorded this year.
Mortal Engines was average but Jackson gets all the kudos for this film.
