Good on him I say. It was an egg, not a rock. And it's a far more effective way of combating Anning than some 2,000 word thinkpiece in the Weekend Australian.
By that logic, you'd be OK with someone with strongly held beliefs egging a Green politician that they genuinely believed was a nutter?
Disclaimer: Anning's a twat, his views are abhorrent, but I'm really not keen on condoning violence against as a response
Edit: the kid's a twit, and the response was probably OTT. But then, you play with fire, you get burnt. No one came out of that well.

If that Green politician raised an abhorrent view at a horrible time, then yes. Some actions are egg-worthy, but it's very very rare.
Thankfully this would be one of the only times in the past 20 years or so one of our pollies has done something truly egg-worthy.
My egg threshold may be higher than others though.

... and that's where the issue comes I think. Abhorrence is a personal thing.
I get fired up by people who think that homeopathy cures cancer, or that vaccination can lead to autism. Or people who think we shouldn't carry out any genetic modification, or open more coal fired power stations.
So, basically I'm intolerant ... but the threshold for physically attacking someone is even higher - particularly politicians. I was pissed when Helen Clarke was treated like a second class citizen at Waitangi, I was pissed when turkeys confronted John Key, threw pig shit on John Banks and attacked James Shaw. And no, I didn't like the dildo throwing (but it was bloody funny).
Anyway, in principle I think physical attacks shouldn't be tolerated, particularly on politicians. Because the definition of who does and doesn't qualify to be personally attacked depends on the nutjob doing it. The animal rights extremists in the UK think they are doing great things by destroying people and businesses. It's just nuts.

Yeah I'd tend to agree with you, though I do think this is a bit of an outlier. Both the nature of the politician (and what he said/did) and the nature of the attack.
But we can agree to disagree. Kind of.

If we don't, can I egg you?

I work with a bunch or great guys but today was an eye opener.
Several of them were watching the shooting. Disgusted but drawn in. I was asked if I had seen it and I said yes and did not want to watch it ever again.
They were all genuinely upset by it but couldn’t look away. Afterward the egging came up and they all said what I was thinking. “Fraser is a fluffybunny” etc, etc. But then it turned to one guy saying “hes half right though” then they all agreed that the problem with FA isn’t his politics, it is his delivery. He’s too offensive but the message is right.
“Muslims are ok but not if there’s too many. Muslims want to change everything about Australia”I picked up my phone to make a call so they got out of my office.
-
It is, as they say, "blowing up deluxe" over here in political terms. Some comment made by Morrison years back about using Muslim concerns to grab votes in a shadow cabinet meeting has come back to him and he's not well pleased.
Interestingly, the original author of the article back in 2010 (2011?) was not discussed, only the person who repeated the incident on TV recently. So that's weird.
Several of the Conservative media who were very measured in their language after the attack are now going off their brains because people are accusation them of dog whistling.
Not an ideal preparation for a federal election as far as the government is concerned.
-
@barbarian didn't Gillard get egged a couple of times?
-
@NTA mate this federal election is playing havoc with the building industry, at least in Brisbane and the GC it is.
No one is doing anything which means we are doing nothing which means we are not making any money which means my wife is going to eventually hit the bottom of the endless pit she thinks is our bank account.

Lot of economic uncertainty, that's for sure. Mate of mine lays floors and he's usually booking work months out. Says everything has slowed right down and he's only got work to the end of May.

Is this federal election related? Or just natural cycles?
Australia has been booming for years, especially Western "Sydney". A slow down had to come at some point.
I think the upcoming federal election is having an effect. Changes in Capital Gains Tax and Franking Credits could have an effect on housing investment.

I can't work out if this is BS pushed by Liberals to scare people off of Labor or whether this Labor being who they really are.
