Censorship and the Mosque Shooting

Chief Censor David Shanks:
"If you have a copy of this publication, delete or destroy it. If you see it, report it. Do not support the murderous objectives of its author by republishing or distributing it."However, Shanks said the office appreciated there would be a range of people who would be in possession of the document for "legitimate" purposes, including education, analysis and in-depth reporting.
"Those individuals can apply for exemptions, so they can legitimately access and hold a copy."
Shanks said anyone who sees the document online should report it immediately.
I want to read it to better understand this psychopath. I watched the video to see what an incident like this looks like so that I'm not "deer in the headlights" like some were. I noted what gunfire sounds like, the need to never, never be stationary in such a circumstance, the split second cognisance required when you see a guy in army fancy dress on a given afternoon.
I get that some don't want see it, or the manifesto cool, ok. But banning it suggests you think I'm going to read it and be compelled to copy, how dare you associate that with the NZ populace. The arrogance that says, "you're not mature or intelligent enough to learn from this, according to me".
For the first time in my 50 years, I'm ashamed of my country. It's not a nice feeling.

I agree. Banning the video as offensive - no problem. Banning the manifesto? Fark that, the answer to free speech you don't like is more speech.
Anyone who wants to read it can access it through the internet. It is not going to stop people. By banning it, you can't point out the idiocy of it, and it gives it a certain glamour.
I had a mate who kept a copy of the anarchist's cookbook with cookbooks in the kitchen. Banning. Does. Not. Work..

I have no interest in seeing any of the video. Zero. I’m fine with a ban on that. But a ban on the manifesto...? Stop treating me like an infant.

This has really thrown me. I know sometimes what I say seems hyperbolic and although it doesn't seem like it I'm actually glad when people tell me to 'get a grip'and explain why my arguments are flawed and things aren't as bad as I make out.
I do however have very firm principles and I genuinely believe that the only way to beat bad ideas is with good ideas. I also know I am actually quite good at it having had experience talking people down from crazy ideas in the last couple years. This new censorship terrifys me. I'm already part way through an article trying to argue against this pos's manifesto, but in today's law that makes me a criminal.
It's a shit thing to say bit the killer has a point, that's not to say it is the correct point but if you are to drive an idea completely underground there is every chance you willnot hear the arguments like mine that can dispell this horrific shit.

I have zero interest in either the video or the 'manifesto'
I can understand trying to limit views of the video, but those who want to see it, will find it, whereas the 'manifesto' might give a bit more insight into the workings of this cnuts mind and assist those better placed to avert a future incident one way or another, but again, it is out in the internet, banning it just makes some want to see it more.

Not sure where this belongs but it relates to the massacre and censorship.
About the time Trump got the republican nomination aussie comedian Jim Jeffries cucked up and became anti Trump when he sensed which way the wind was blowing.
Trouble is he's spent his time since hassling Trump for grabbing pussies while at the same time deleting the videos on youtube and reddit where he brags about getting a 17 year old girl stoned enough on ecstasy and coke to have sex with him and other really creepy behaviour towards women.
Last week he got caught out editing a video to make a jewish activist in Australia look awful and link him to the Christchurch massacre, this isn't the first time Jeffries has done this but this is the first time theres proof. Now he's shut down comments on his instagram and Comedy central are trying to figure out what to do next after he made an entire show about white ethnonationalism in Australia and how it caused the massacre that is based around that may or may not be bullshit .
Edit, I'm no fan of twitter but I just checked his and every second tweet to anything he posts is this video now . I can't wait till the #metoo crowd find him too ,his rape jokes have been an issue in the past that comedy central ignored .

Evacuations of Homegrown Music Festival reportedly sparked by a tattoo
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12215670
Someone thought they saw a “right-wing tattoo” on an attendee. False alarm, but cops want increased vigilence and reports, call 111.

Suspect we'll be seeing this sort of thing for the foreseeable future. While it sucks it does make sense as a big crowd spread across several streets would not be easy to secure etc.

My home town's local history Museum has a 'War Years' commemoration which was scheduled for this weekend, police have asked them to postpone. We don't have a reason yet but the rumour is flying it's in relation to the Christchurch attack.
Somehow I doubt a rural town of only 5000 people is going to be the next attack location...also despite what our media wants to tell us I doubt it's a copycat that is the expected danger here.

Who would have thought it was Chch?
5,000 potential soft targets, minimal police ...

All sorts of events right across the spectrum have been postponed or cancelled over the last ten days. I’ve been closely involved with two that were affected, yet with completely contrasting topics.
Much has simply depended on police resourcing, more so in places where police were taken from for Christchurch.

I know a guy who runs one of the cop shops in Auckland, they sent a bunch of guys down to Chch to relieve the local force. Probably a good time to be a crim right now!!

Making every single gathering completely secure is impossible. This reaction from NZ is simply, "everyone inside because the big bad wolf is out there somewhere"
Its blatant peddling fear, always a precursor to more security laws.
I don't like where my country is headed under this virtue signalling, fear mongering government.
"Waleed, can I give you a hug" ( for ratings), is not strong leadership

It's a knee-jerk reaction though isn't it? No different from the TSA going nuts after 9/11. Things will calm down

Yeah. It's better now than when I flew through the US 6 months after 9/11. Which isn't saying much
