@Catogrande V was pretty fucking cool. ha ha the effects when they ate mice and had the fake throat stretch. Creepy fucking lizards.

The reboot in the 2000's had a smoking hot evil lizard lady if I recall correctly.

There was another sci-fi series about the same time as Tripods, called I think V. Aliens overtaking Earth. Usual shit but I do remember them swallowing hamsters.

    I think.

V was great. Some hot women as well

IIRC V was a mini series in the early to mid 80s that screened on TVNZ but they never picked up the actual series. But, when TV3 started they picked it up even though it was a few years old (probably because it was cheap) ... TV3 came late to HB but my cousin in Auckland recorded all episodes so I got to watch them in the holidays.

Another NZ show which popped into my head the other day is Space Knights, a puppet space King Arthur story that was made by TVNZ in the late 80s. I only remembered it because the theme song Space Junk popped into my head when I read an article about space junk (man made debris floating around up there). No idea how that popped into my brain.

I think I'm older than both of you. I was too old for The TV series but I remember reading the trilogy by John Christopher it was based on as a young kid and thoroughly enjoying it. I've been a sucker for an alien invasion book/movie ever since 😉

The Triffids (movie) scared the beejuzuz out of me when I first saw it. The Wyndham book not so much - found things like Midwich Cuckoos more disturbing

and yes, from memory, The Masters (Tripods) were partial to a hor d'ouevre of live Hamster

i read the books and watched the TV series. I barely remember either though

I only remember the song, it's existence and the puppets, but no memory of it's quality so I believe you that it sucked.

Kids from Owl was another terrible kiwi kids show .

I remember Davidav boasting one time his wife was the girl in the Mad Dog Gang which is probably the most random thing I’ve ever seen posted here.

It was the bbc tripods one. Yeah I was young just rewatched some scenes on you tube. The acting is dire!

I remember the triffords as well though.

The Triffids book is fun if you know much about Bloomsbury and Clerkenwell.

The triffids book by John Wyndham is rightly considered an absolute classic and obviously loads of Zombie/apocalyptic movies stole it's ideas quite liberally.

TV show was pretty shite in a bad Dr Who/Blakes 7 type way.

Yep, one of the few books I had to read for school that I actually ended up really liking.

Must be time for me to (again) mention Joanna Lumley opening her front door to me wearing only her chemise

Actually had dinner with her once - terrific person.

Was helping out at a Variety Club event for handicapped kids and she was doing the teas and drinks for everyone. There was a meal for all the helpers afterwards and she sat at our table.

We mentioned that one of our group had the serious hots for her but had to miss the meal for another event. She asked for his name and address and he got a thank you card from her a few days later.

    Class act.
