Kind of, but it's just a site you create in Google using templates, it doesn't need knowledge of HTML - kind of like a company Intranet.

It used to be free but I'm not sure about now - you may need a Google Apps account ... so might not work for you guys. Ok, so apparently it's still free if you have a gmail account.
-

Looks like Google Site. I'll give it a go thanks. At least one poster offered a sensible reply to a question from someone who isn't so online savvy
-

Actually - google groups might be easiest - you can just create threads (like any old forum) and post pics and stuff within them. Depends on how much effort you want to put in.

You can create a group in a couple of minutes and start posting straight away.
-

I have a bunch of mates who would like to share info, news, photos etc amongst ourselves without using facebook or any related methods (it's all above board, honest!!). I want everyone to be able to contribute without needing one person to upload all the stuff at any time. How might I best go about this?

If you are using the Internet, why not FB? If you are all on FB you can set up a private group, have your phone sync with it so when you log in, the photos/videos are there waiting and you choose which ones ot upload and share on the page, plus any crap you talk is private and just for you guys.

Just another option on an existing platform.
-

I think one of the guys is setting up a FB group. Problem is, I am not on FB and am suspicious of joining. Call me old fashioned....
-

haha fair enough, just need to ensure your privacy settings are set properly (and check them now and then) and it is sweet for what you are wanting it for.

From early in the First World War, the people of London had experienced the realities of aerial attacks, with the first bombing raids by German airships taking place in May 1915. The allies quickly developed ways and means of attacking and destroying airships and by 1917 their activities had been severely curtailed, leading the German's to seek alternative ways to bomb the capital. The answer came in the shape of the Gotha, a twin-engined bi-plane, capable of flying for 5-6 hours and delivering 1,300lbs of bombs. On the 13th June 1917, London experienced its first daylight bombing by aircraft, as a squadron of fourteen Gotha dropped around 126 bombs, killing 162 people and injuring over 400, most of whom were civilians. In Central Street, on the eastern edge of the City of London, P.C. Alfred Smith was patrolling when the unfamiliar sound of aircraft was heard above and bombs began to fall on the surrounding area. Panic ensued and as people ran out into the street, several were injured by flying debris, prompting Smith and others to try and get them back into buildings. Smith had just warned some passers-by to take cover and was in the process of ushering other women back into a textiles factory when a bomb landed close by and he was caught in the explosion which knocked him to the ground and killed him.
-
