It's certainly not officially the Scottish anthem so what some Scots might call it is completely irrelevant.

Though to be fair Rancid, the SRU have officially adopted it. As from 1997 (Ithink).

"God Defend New Zealand" is one of two national anthems of New Zealand, the other being "God Save the Queen". Legally they have equal status, but "God Defend New Zealand" is more commonly used, and is widely albeit incorrectly referred to as "the national anthem"

I don't sing the national anthem because I can't bring myself to say "God defend New Zealand" when I am so strongly against religion of any kind.

Last time I got invited to do a haka overseas I claimed I was an aussie to avoid joining the drunken embarrassment , the two Maori guys with me claimed they were Samoans and we retreated to a safe distance where we could watch and cringe .I don't get the dislike for out anthem although I think it sounds approximately 100 times better in Maori.

It took Valerie almost being unable to compete at London but it was totally worth it to get rid of him, the swim team doing a haka in lycra to celebrate a bronze was probably his nadir. I wonder what causes him to bust out a haka in his private life? "Successfully parallel parked ! Sweet... ka mate ka mate......"

I've done some serious whisky-aided flag debate over the weekend and I've changed my mind on the flag. Thinking about the simplicity of the canadian flag Im thinking just the silverfern on black should be the go. The extra colours/southern cross just make it too busy trying to appease too much. The silverfern on black is pretty much our flag overseas anyway

I quite like this one, prefer it to the 'reverse' version where the blue is on the right and black on the left

That won't stop with being a republic. Bitchez be crazy for Prince George.

Anyhoo, this flag thing is interesting to watch from over here, because a few points strike me from the outside looking in:

1) 40 designs being released is a great weapon for the traditionalists to keep the status quo - "fucking hell we've got 100,000 people liking each design? How do you pick? Nah fuck it - stay where we are!)

2) Poor bloody kids who have to draw a silver fern when they're doing homework or assignments 😉 I struggled with our 7 pointed star but then I am a hopeless artist

3) Does the fern require a certain number of leaves to be legit? Like does the plant itself usually have X leaves per side? Some the flag designs I've seen have square-ended leaves, or pointy, or rounded, and between 13-16 leaves plus the tip.

It didn't make the top forty unfortunately. There's a petition going to get it added Veitchy's linked to it on his facebook if you're keen

I like that but would prefer no blue at all. Fern, Southern Cross on black background.
