Dark Phoenix - a prequel of sorts for X Men focussing on Jean (Sansa Stark)

Although a character that appears in later (made earlier, set later) movies was killed in this one, so not sure how that works given I'm not a massive X Men fan.

@Nepia There are a billion cringe moments - but oh my god, the oooooh bright shiny exotic AMERICAN shit nearly made me spew. Also the 'you're one of us now! You are whanau!'

My wife has seen the preview for this and has decided we should watch it. I'm doing everything I can to convince her otherwise but she won't listen. How do I stop her?

Negotiate a particularly filthy sex act as a reward for sitting through it with her or since you’re married and the concept of sex outside of your birthday might be laughable insist that she sit through your choice of movie too .

My suggestion would be Avengement , it’s a British gangster film on Netflix. It’s basically one long fight scene with curb stompings , prison napalm , amputations and stabbings.

Stating the obvious, but for more accurate movie ratings, IMDB user reviews are a far better guide than Rotten Tomato critics.

Sample of critic reviews of Rambo.

The MAGA fever dream of "Rambo: Last Blood"
Right wing "Rambo" propaganda is alive and well in "Last Blood"

...is less an escapist action movie and more a dramatized manifestation of the most notorious sentences from Donald Trump's presidential campaign announcement speech."

    "An unwatchable piece of excrement."

"Rambo was always a product of Republican policy, and his sore loser, crybaby, murder fantasy is a daringly accurate reflection of the state of the Republican Party circa 2019."

"Little more than a soft-core snuff film"

"Jingoism is expected, but 'Last Blood' takes extreme patriotism and adds a vulgar 2019 MAGA design flair to it."

I don't think that's necessarily true or obvious, my mate only watches films based on IMDB ratings and he watches some average films because of it and misses some decent ones.

And if you want to go the political route, IMDB have had to modify their voting system like others because of bloc voting by people who often haven't seen the movie - best examples of this is the Armenian Genocide movie where the Turks and Armenians were just voting 10 or 0 and Captain Marvel which the Youtube comic movies gang bloc voted down before it was released.

TBF, I never chose to watch a movie based on either method, I'm probably more inclined to see or not see movies based on small subsets of critics I like. I also don't watch previews so that adds to the lottery.

Fark, some people overthink stuff don't they? It looks like a brutal, typically violent, explosive, high body count mindless film. Great stuff

@canefan yep, if I choose to watch Rambo, and there is shootin', 'splosions, blood, baddies dying by the dozen, weak story and dialogue, I will know I went into the right theatre, and I will no doubt be thoroughly happy.

Some of those tools on IMDB think they are proper critics, like fuck they are a better guide....some great reviews though (comedy value)

I was actually going to Rambo this afternoon but the timing didn’t fit so went to Ad Astra instead. Of the 6 of us who went we were evenly split between liked it (me included) and hated it.

It’s a pretty slow film punctuated with action every so often. Pitt is having a good ‘acting’ year with this and Once ....

Early days for cgi, that’s better the closer to the actual release date.

    Bad Neighbours.

Standard Rogan. Average movie with some hilarious moments, and his obligatory few scenes about casual drug use.

Probably only a 2, but I'm going to give it a 3 purely down to the airbag and Rogan/Efron fight scenes

3 Australians trying to sound American out of 5 Zac Efron abs.

A trusted friend saw the new Rambo movie and claimed that it was nearly as good as Taken.
