@Old-Samurai-Jack Bloody right. Sat there and got fat and comfortable by all accounts.
Bloody minus fart-all zero of a game plan in RWC and for heavyweight teams when it counted over the past couple of years too.

Just want to ask a question. What has Foster done to deserve the top job? Please answer without referring or comparing to another person.

I'm not a supporter of Foster, but 8 years as assistant coach to one of the most successful eras in one of th emost successful AB sides of all time.

    Hansen clearly rates him.

Wayne Smith (godlike reputation that we have) worked with him for 4+ years, and appears to rate him. Has been in media saying he's changed, don't judge him on the Chiefs. Wayne-O is the preferred assistant of everyone on the board, but we're not listening to what he has to say about somoene he knows well and worked with for 4 years.

So Foster has (on paper) a really strong CV for what works at the top level, and the support of very influential and good coaches. If he wasn't excellent - why the hell would Hansen and Smith hold on to him for so long?

Finally, I was not coninced about Hansen when he was appointed. His apparent attitude and demeanour and coaching capability in 11 didn't fill me with joy; not much inWales, not much with the Saders. Got that one wrong happily... he's been a revelation in the job. Hope to christ the same thing would happen if it's Fossie.... it just feels so wrong.

If he had the rumoured team, I'd be happy. But it really needs a two year break clause, in case of emergency (shit performances)

@pakman around the time the first AB test...not a stretch to see him given that extra time if he is keen.

This article made some relevant points, in particular the comments from the anonymous coach.

I think it needs to be an initial 2 yr contract regardless of who gets the job.

Agreed. If Schmidt backed one or t'other I'd say NZRU would be very accommodating.

@nzzp Relevant argument there. However, all we have is his previous record and the ABs over the last 2 years when he apparently had a bit of an influence. I get the feeling his influence was strong in the last RWC. As I have written previously, the flaws in the ABs in the last few years seem to parallel the problems the Chiefs had. How can you not be concerned?

I'm not at all sure I'd choose him, I'm not a fan. The point I'm making is that at least two very very good coaches (Hansen and Smith) clearly rate him as a coach. that, combined with his time with the ABs mean that he'll be in the conversation; rightly or wrongly.

@nzzp as much as I rate Robertson, I think his problem would appear to be the team he is supposedly building (or has access to) initially he was looking to build his team with Brown, but that option is gone, making the team Fozzie seems to be assembling preferrable.

Bidwell sure is keen on burning whatever rickety bridge he may already be standing on regarding Foster.

There has always been a theme of attacking the Hansen set up from the Ferald, led by Ratpoo.

They claim it is because unless you sucked up you were on the outside when the counterclaim is that if you are going to write shitty clickbait while ignoring facts then you won't be taken seriously.

This is one massive fuck off to Foster and if he gets the job you can be sure that Bidwell won't be welcome at Press Conferences.

Looks like his Press Pass for free admittance to matches under the auspices of the NZRFU might be in jeopardy. Good on him though as he is echoing the thoughts of, well who knows how many but certainly mine anyway.

He (and others) may not prefer to see Foster in the job but he has no foundation to start calling it a sham.
If things could/should have been done differently then by all means criticise the process (if you actually have the facts and aren't guessing), but to declare that there is a cartel operating and no thought of anyone except Foster is unfounded.

He is echo-ing the thoughts of many but that doesn't give those thoughts validity.

Inclined to agree with these quotes from Ben Kay

**Foster is the establishment figure. He would provide continuity within the All Blacks set-up, but how closely tied is he to the previous regime? Can he evolve? How much do New Zealand need to start again?" Kay wrote.

All the Crusaders people love Scott Robertson but he does things slightly differently. He brands each season differently; one season it could be boxing; another season it could be NFL. One year he built his narrative around Melbourne Storm, the NRL team, and brought players in to speak to the squad. He is a very creative coach and would be more of a maverick appointment."**
