AIG AND NZR PARTNERSHIP COMING TO AN END
New Zealand Rugby (NZR) and Major Global Sponsor American International Group, Inc. (AIG) have announced today they will part ways, signalling the end of one of international rugby’s most successful partnerships. In signalling early their intention not to continue their sponsorship beyond 2021, NZR Chief Executive Mark Robinson said the international insurance giant was giving both organisations ample time to prepare for new opportunities in the future. “We have enjoyed a hugely successful and mutually beneficial commercial partnership that has helped both AIG and NZR to strengthen our respective brands on the world stage. “Through this partnership, NZR and the six national teams sponsored by AIG have been able to grow rugby’s presence in new and growing markets, with opportunities to play in new territories and introduce our teams to new fans all over the world. “AIG was particularly active behind our teams achieving many significant milestones: the All Blacks playing their first ever Test match on United States soil with return fixtures in Chicago; a triple header featuring the Māori All Blacks and Black Ferns in Chicago; the Māori All Blacks playing in new cities in Canada, matches in Osaka and Tokyo, and a first-time South American tour to Brazil and Chile. “Lengthy commercial partnerships such as this are unusual, and the lead-in time provided means NZR is very well placed to attract new sponsors,” Robinson said. “AIG has been a special partner not only because of their presence on the front of the treasured black jersey, but because they have been a leading voice on social issues that are dear to NZR and to our athletes. “We are proud that New Zealand Rugby players were the faces of their #EffortisEffort and #DiversityIsStrength campaigns, promoting positive social messages and equality on and off the sporting field. Such campaigns have received a number of accolades, including being recognised at prestigious international advertising ceremonies such as Cannes and the Clio Awards in New York. “AIG has been behind the All Blacks through a dominant period on-field, including a Rugby World Cup win in 2015, the Black Ferns’ 2017 Rugby World Cup win in Ireland, double gold at the Commonwealth Games and at the Sevens Rugby World Cup for the All Blacks Sevens and Black Ferns Sevens teams in 2018, while off-field, the All Blacks received the coveted Laureus Award and the Princess of Asturias Award. “We will continue to work with AIG through another exciting period for our teams – with both the men’s and women’s sevens teams seeking gold at the Tokyo Olympics later in 2020, and the Black Ferns heading into the Rugby World Cup 2021 as defending champions and the tournament’s host nation,” Robinson said. Daniel Glantz, AIG’s Global Head of Sponsorship and Strategic Partnerships, said: “We thank New Zealand Rugby for their partnership and are proud of our many accomplishments together. New Zealand Rugby’s staff and players have consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence on and off the pitch, which has enhanced both of our brands and inspired rugby fans around the world.” AIG’s sponsorship is currently scheduled to conclude at the end of 2021. -

I think we will miss that small emblem.....

Professional game. Given millenials are playing netball where you can run with the ball, perhaps they won't need the millions...

Woulda thought AB/Adidas would have been considered a bit more successful, 20 years last year...
Have to assume they (NZR) have someone else lined up to take over, wonder what thier Logo will look like on Black!

Ideally they should be looking for sponsors with either a small logo, or no more than 3, maybe 4 letters...
Air New Zealand is too big to go on the front of the jersey.
Some of NZs biggest companies....
Fletcher Building - too long
Fonterra - too long
The Warehouse - too long
Kmart - yeah nahIf we look bigger...
maybe a big Apple would work
Amazon - too long
Microsoft - too long
Johnson & Johnson - too long
Visa - do they still sponsor the Pumas?
Nike - oh wait, Adidas.... -

Well I am not being too serious with the above, but the logo/name size will be an issue, despite the mis-givings about AIG, the logo sat well there...but HSBC do the 7s, would they be willing to stump up more cash for the ABs...

Vodafone is the same as Vodacom, right? They sponsor Super Rugby in South Africa, don't they? Also the sponsors of the Bulls.

Vodafone (who can't spell and shouldn't be allowed to parent anybody) are the parent / majority shareholder in Vodacom.

The size of the name doesn't really matter if the sponsor is Silver Fern Farms with a logo like this:

I suspect we need to look at an international sponsor though; most NZ companies are probably too small.
Big companies with a short name:
AEG
AT&T
UPS
Ford
BP
3M -
Just go to Amazon.
Then we can buy the best players in the world, the NPC will be the world's best 2nd tier comp, and all the good kiwi players will stay home. Amazon can steam the whole thing on their new service.
I look forward to Semi Radradra, Liam Williams, and Sinkler playing for BOP.

@Stargazer Ford already sponsor the ABs, so probabl yhave had the chance to be a jersey sponsor, but the step up in cash?
DHL seem to like rugby too, but thier red & yellow logo on Black
@mariner4life didnt NZR investigate the streaming avenue, and given they recently re-did thier contract with SKy I expect the streaming thing to make squizillions from Bezos wasnt viable

maybe they thought Bezos was a Cantab and just dismissed him on principle?
