Interesting. Are posting volumes down - they certainly seem that way to this casual Ferner
It'll be easier to answer that after a week. But I'm sure they are.. day to day post numbers fluctuate
There's always a shitload more people reading than posting (mobile phones have increased that gap)

Every time I see another tweet or story about how lax authorities are being at our airports in regards to travellers coming in (especially from known hotspots), I get more concerned. Like seriously? A fucking pamphlet and off you go?
I keep hearing about an Indian guy was interviewed at the airport and asked if he would be self isolating. His answer was no, they canβt make it do it

The lack of sport is really alarming me. The Fern is very quiet, sports news has vanished; I'm having to actually work and talk to people.
Very disappointing, people.
Imagine how those addicted to sports betting must feel, they will be betting on number of deaths per country no doubt.

@Virgil they showed him on the news last night.
Was a couple of backpackers who said they wouldnt be, they had spent alot to get here and wouldnbt be self-isolating...dumbarses, they are probably in a great spot to be able ot self-isolate as they travel about steering clear of people.

Cindy says they reserve the right to forcibly isolate if they suspect travellers don't have adequate provision to do so. I believe it's time to open up the Whenuapai hotel

I am a contract worker in the education sector, looks like I am out of work for the time being, schools have cancelled their sessions. No sessions no pay for me, no sick leave, no holidays. My other hustle is photography, not going to be any weddings any time soon. Hmm, might have to try and get a job at a toilet paper factory.
I think there's going to be a lot of people experiencing real hardship soon given the extent of our gig economy. And the one element you'd initially think you could rely on, home delivery, is being all but suspended by the major supermarkets. Even Deliveroo are implementing measures.
Then factor in these people have debts and it doesn't look pretty.

@canefan yep, as I mentioned above, my neighbours have a cabin on thier seciton they let out as an Air B'n'B and they had some people arrive yesterday from Israel and are planning on being there for the 14 days.
Yeah. That seems pretty responsible. As long as they are prepared to stay in
-
My take is that self-isolation is just a tool to limit the number of overseas arrivals without using the term "complete travel ban". You would hope that people do use common sense and display a degree of personal responsibility but in reality there will not always be the case. Anyone that publicly says they will ignore the rules should be on the first plane home. The extreme measure is to send all recent arrivals to Whangaparaoa no questions asked if they aren't NZ residents with a known address. But that isn't practical.
-
@Bovidae the strategy is right in line with the article Baron posted up a while back which talked about reducing mobility of the disease. You can't eliminate them all but the new regs will reduce numbers travelling as many will be discouraged to do so, and remove as many potential carriers from circulation as possible. That just leaves a very small number of idiots which you are always going to get. But a trickle is better than a flood

@canefan from my side of the fence the cabin is far enough away that it wont impact me...guess I could always narc on them if I see them going out
Call #105 mate. It's a matter of national security π§

They're actually allowed to go out. Just not to busy places. Can still go for a run, hike etc. Can even go to the supermarket if necessary!
-
At no point should anything be reliant on common sense.
Last night I got my first 'drink this virus-blasting home remedy and you'll be fine' group email, and I rage screeched like an air raid siren. People are fucking idiots, which wouldn't be so bad if they only hurt themselves, but they trot out, ignore science and hurt others also.

The supermarket is the only debatable one there. I reckon it should be okay if you are mindful about touching and coughing on stuff but I don't think it's on the list of places you are meant to go.
